Thank you to everyone who joined us at St James’s Piccadilly for Among Friends. We’re so grateful to our audience for sharing the evening with us, and to our wonderful musicians for bringing this programme to life.

The music carried its own stories: Dvořák wrote his Terzetto so he could play alongside his young lodger, while Borodin’s quartet was a gift to his wife. Haydn’s Emperor quartet grew around a melody that became a national anthem.

Four composers, four musical worlds, and a reminder of the human stories that live within chamber music.

Why Among Friends?

Behind many of the works in this programme are stories of friendship, family and artistic exchange.

Dvořák wrote his Terzetto so that he could play alongside a young lodger living in his home.
Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2 was written for his wife, twenty years after they first met.

Schubert’s music emerged from the close circle of friends and musicians that surrounded his early life.

On 24 September, we bring these works together at St James’s Piccadilly.

Some evenings are better shared.

There is something rather lovely about encountering great composers as fellow musicians: taking a part, listening to one another and enjoying the company. Swipe for Michael Kelly’s recollection of a particularly remarkable quartet gathering in Vienna.

A week from today, that pleasure of making and hearing music together finds its place in Among Friends, with works by Dvořák, Haydn, Schubert and Borodin.

The people behind the music.

Every performance begins with the musicians themselves; listening, responding and shaping the music together in the moment.

This is the first in a closer look at the people who make up the London Chamber Orchestra, and the individual experience each musician brings to the ensemble.

Next stop: Among Friends, St James’s Piccadilly, 24 September.

A look back at a very special evening at the Garrison Chapel, in support of The King’s Foundation.

Beautiful surroundings, wonderful company and, at the heart of the evening, live music from the London Chamber Orchestra.

Occasions such as these are a lovely reminder of what chamber music can create when performance, place and people come together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. ✨
