A Magical day at the Aldeburgh Festival - Schubert Quintet at 11am, Britten and Bach Suites at 7.30pm.

What a privilege to play these immense masterpieces at the Aldeburgh Festival to such attentive audiences. Being immersed in nature at Thorington Theatre gave a whole new perspective, listening to the birds and wildlife as the evening unfolded (we could have done without the low flying plane at possibly the most inappropriate moment in the whole concert - the culmination of Britten’s profound 3rd Suite!!). I couldn’t resist finishing with the Song of the Birds by Casals.

Sometimes you’ve just got to get out! It has been a fun weekend at the Dublin International Chamber Music Festival performing works by Haydn, Ravel and Brahms. I saw this large hill outside my window at beautiful Killruddery House and couldn’t resist getting up and down before sunset!

Barber Matthew Kaner and Britten yesterday lunchtime at the Wigmore Hall with Melvyn Tan. Quite an intense programme, and so Bridge’s Spring Song felt like a good idea to finish with. Thank you for such a warm reception and to all the family and friends who came along! It was a joy to be back at the Wigmore Hall.

From Hatfield House Music Festival launch to an evening with members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at Minterne House and Gardens ahead of our next concerto recording. I’m grateful to everyone behind the scenes for making these occasions possible. You can now see the incredibly exciting programme (www.hatfieldhousemusicfestival.org) for the festival at Hatfield Park in October, including performances from The Sixteen Royal Ballet And Opera Iestyn Davies MBE - Countertenor Timothy Ridout - Violist Academy of St Martin in the Fields Julian Bliss András Schiff The Purcell School. Also included are pictures with Dione Digby who ran a concert series for 50 years at Minterne, as well as from a walk round the enchanted garden. There’s something magical about performing in the spot where I got married nearly 8 years ago. Time is flying! We have recently reignited music here and look forward to a recital today with the wonderful Irène Duval.

I’m honoured to be a part of the wonderful European String Teachers Association (ESTA UK). We had a fundraising evening at the 1901 Arts Club this week to help support the incredibly important work this organisation offers to teachers around the country. It was founded by Yehudi Menuhin in the 70s and continues to be a beacon of hope for the future of music. I take my hat off to Phil Aird and all those working behind the scenes for keeping the work relevant in an ever changing musical climate.

I was walking past the Wigmore Hall yesterday and reminded of an upcoming recital on Tuesday!! Do come along if you’re free at lunchtime. Barber, a new work by Matt Kaner, and Britten. We celebrated in the evening with a little run of Matt’s delightful piece followed by a birthday party with my parents and dear friends. Matthew Kaner Gabriella Swallow
