of the 1930's through to 1990 and as a dancer myself, I know what works. I have played many gigs in the 'West End' of London (Marble Arch, Carnaby Street, Leicester Square, Camden, Soho, Holborn), also at celebrations including anniversaries, birthdays, christenings, reunions, weddings, even at funeral wakes in and around London during the late 80's and all through the 90's. I had a break in the early 2000's to get married and things like that...

Past Newham / Local gigs

Some of my 2020 gigs included a handful of the "What's Cookin" gigs at the Red Lion E6, with sets between the bands. St Barts Church (E6), Christmas parties (2022 + 2023)

I was guest / main DJ at Red Door Studios pop-up community cafe (E6), where I was spinning tunes from 2016 until May 2025 (NINE years!). In 2023, I returned to the Red Lion pub (E6) to play an enjoyable afternoon session, which was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback and now I am in the fourth year of my residency there (as of 2026). I have also been a guest DJ at the Boleyn Public house (E6) in 2025. I also DJ at a dance club in Soho, playing there thrice in 2024, twice in 2025, I played there in March and will again in September of 2026, amongst many other gigs! My aim is to get you up and dancing to the classic sounds - so, if you request it and I have it with me, it will be played for ya!

My first concert on 06/10/1973

In late September of 1973, at the age of 12, an older cousin of mine had found out that a chart - topping band were going to be playing a gig at Queen Mary college in the Mile End Road on 6th of October and he suggested that we should attend and I readily agreed.

We paid the princely sum of £1.50 per ticket and whilst everyone else gravitated towards the stage at ground level, we found the stairs up to the balcony and as nobody else was up there, we went to the very front and had a truly excellent view of the four band members who were Kevin Godley, Graham Gouldman, Lol Crème and Eric Stewart - the classic line up of 10cc - all impeccable musicians and vocalists.

After an excellent gig where they performed their early hits; “Donna”, “Johnny Don’t Do It”, “The Dean and I” and songs from their debut LP and their encore tune was “Rubber Bullets” - we were slapping the balcony edge with our hands to the infectious beat of the song and if I said that my hands were throbbing afterwards, that would be an understatement!

Here is that tune whose airplay was limited by the Beeb at the time, due to their thinking it was about the conflicts in Northern Ireland - In fact, it was about a prison riot like the ones in the old James Cagney films.

It took me two days short of two years to go to another gig, which, funnily enough was at the same venue - but that is for my next post!

I was truly saddened to hear of the passing of the superb Chris Rea, a fabulous songwriter and lead guitarist with that lovely 'smoky' voice.

I have many personal faves of his recordings, but I thought I would share this beautiful song from 1991 - listen to that stunningly melodic slide guitar solo.

Rest in peace, Mr Rea.
