💬 “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. In Kali-yuga, if this Vedic maha-mantra is chanted regularly and heard regularly by the devotional process of shravanam kirtanam, it will purify all societies, and thus humanity will be happy both materially and spiritually.”

- Srila Prabhupada (Śrīmad Bhagavatam 4.18.14)

⭐️ Return Trip to Gaudiya Mission UK ⭐️

The Hare Krishna Project's Narada Prabhu was back at the Gaudiya Mission UK temple in Willesden Green last weekend to take part in the Math/Mission's Sunday programme.

With his friend, Steve, former Director of London's Interfaith Matters Forum, the pair were able to experience authentic Bengali Vaishnavism... right in the heart of London 🙏

In 1933, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Goswami Maharaj sent three of his disciples to London - Hridaya Bon Goswami, Bhakti Pradip Tirtha Goswami and Sambidananda das to share Krishna Consciousness with people in the west.

One of the ladies they met was Daisy Bowtwell who allowed devotees to meet in her home for Kirtan, Katha and Prasadam.

When she passed away in 1981 she donated her house in Cranhurst Road (London) to the mission.

🎥 Ms Bowtell's home is still be used today as a temple. The Gaudiya Mission UK is the oldest Hare Krishna group in the UK, having been established in 1934 👇

📖 Narada Prabhu has written extensively on the Gaudiya Mission UK, Daisy Bowtell (Vinod Vani devi dasi) and 'Britain's first Hare Krishna movement, 1933-1937' in his book "The Hare Krishnas in Britain" - available on Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Hare-Krishnas-Britain-movements-diversity/dp/B098CQY3LR

For more details about the mission and the temple check out their website: www.ukgaudiyamission.org

** At least 5 westerners were initiated into the Gaudiya Vaishava tradition in London between 1933 and 1937. Daisy Bowtell is recognised as a disciple of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur although she was not given the name Vinoda Vani devi dasi until sometime after February 1937 (Sarasvati Thakur left his body in January 1937). It's likely that Bhakti Saranga Goswami - who was in London at the time - acted as the ritvik during the ceremony **
