Hangeul Calligraphy London recently had a calligraphy event at the British museum titled Korean Calligraphy Session with Hangeul Calligraphy London.
During the session, our close friend and photographer Inga Marchuk kindly captured these moments for us. These images offer scenes from the event and behind-the-scenes, and because they were taken with such love, you can feel the warmth in every frame.
In the background, Calligrapher Kilchan Lee created two A1 sized artworks featuring the preface to Hunminjeongeum, written in the Panbon chae style.
Mr Kilchan titled this piece Hangeul Sarang, meaning Love for Hangeul. The preface was written from right to left reflect the original style of traditional Korean calligraphy. In the open space toward the left, he added Cheon-Ji-In, the dot, the horizontal line, and vertical line – symbols that form the foundation of Hangeul.
Mr Kilchan created two versions of this work, which you can see displayed at the top and the bottom. You will also find additional photographs taken from various directions and angles.
The initial idea of creating A1 sized piece was proposed by the event organiser Minju MJ Song, suggested Hangeul related piece that could be used as a background. We are grateful to Minju MJ Song for initiating this great idea. We also deeply appreciate your dedicated efforts in promoting both the calligraphy event and the special lecture on ‘Why we Write’.
