Formed as a Guild rather than a Trade Association, MPG has no party political agenda, but we do represent our community to Government so that our voice is heard. We actively engage with other music industry organisations, to develop a dialogue about and exert an influence on matters of mutual interest and benefit to our members and our industry. We also encourage and support discussion and develop

ment within our community through various events, sub groups such as the Mastering, Pro Tools and Logic user groups and our participation in UK Music and JAMES, the jointly owned education wing of MPG.

Stefan Walter (.musicmaker) is an producer, engineer and mixer currently based in Germany. He has been working in music since 2016, beginning his journey across Germany and Sweden before moving to London in 2022. Throughout his career, he has worked across classical music, live sound, theatre productions and TV channels, while specialising in producing, recording and mixing rock and heavy music.

Stefan focuses on developing up-and-coming bands, helping them build a solid foundation for their music careers. Every production is tailored to the individual needs of the artist, with his work often beginning in the rehearsal studio through songwriting and pre-production, and continuing all the way to a release-ready production alongside guidance through the complexities of the music industry.

Stefan’s top tip? 🌟 To work from outside to inside. Having the big picture in mind helps a lot in making the right decisions.

This week, the MPG is delighted to be attending the MiCannes (.cannes) Music Production Festival (2nd–5th June) in Cannes, France 🇫🇷

On 4th June, Natalie Bibby () will moderate a panel discussion exploring old school and modern production techniques. Joining her are Michal ‘Rosa’ Rosicki (), multi award winning producer and engineer, Marcela A (), artist and producer, Martin Glover AKA Youth (), legendary producer and founding member of Killing Joke, and Daniel Hopwood (), Head of Pluto Music.

Topics will include analogue versus digital workflows, in the box production versus live recording, microphone techniques, consoles, sound libraries, and sampling.

The MPG is delighted to share this month’s Studio Spotlight is Air-Edel Studios (), based in Westminster, London! 🌟

Air-Edel Recording Studios is a historic recording studio based near Baker Street, in Central London. The studio began as Star Sound Studios in 1947, and was relaunched as Audio International in 1971, hosting artists such as Pink Floyd, Tom Jones and Harry Nilsson. Air-Edel, a full-service music company founded by legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin and Herman Edel, took over the lease and refurbished the studios in 1991. Since then, the studio has recorded and mixed hundreds of film and television scores, and continued to welcome artists such as Mark Ronson, Nick Cave and Olivia Dean.
