Formed as a Guild rather than a Trade Association, MPG has no party political agenda, but we do represent our community to Government so that our voice is heard. We actively engage with other music industry organisations, to develop a dialogue about and exert an influence on matters of mutual interest and benefit to our members and our industry. We also encourage and support discussion and development within our community through various events, sub groups such as the Mastering, Pro Tools and Logic user groups and our participation in UK Music and JAMES, the jointly owned education wing of MPG.

Nicky Howard () is a mastering engineer with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. Working from his bespoke mastering facility in Yorkshire, UK, he has mastered thousands of records across electronic, pop and contemporary music, including multiple platinum-selling releases.

Known for his instinctive low-end feel and a considered, music-first approach, Nicky works with artists, producers, mixers and labels to provide the final polish and release preparation for their music. His credits include Dizzee Rascal, Ben Böhmer, Misha Miller, and Hot Since 82.

Julian Widdows () is a “second-life” Mixing Engineer.He spent most of his 30-year career leading game teams and studios, producing interactive entertainment including 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, CSR2, and GoldenEye 007 (Wii).

For the past seven years he’s been steadily building a hybrid studio, working with a range of independent artists whilst studying with RSL and Pointblank, and more recently being coached by the brilliant Sara Carter. Every day’s a school day.

His own creative practice centres on eurorack and improvised modular music - meditation, as much as anything, with patch cables and a credit card.

Recent releases include Exorcism’s debut EP, Spectral Aggression (voted #1 Thrash EP of 2025), Tuff Luck’s debut EP Tuff Stuff; he’s currently mixing albums for Exorcism and BloodSaw.

A BAFTA member, coach, consultant, and outgoing chair of the BOA: Creative governing body, Julian is deeply committed to human creatives, creativity, and collaboration in all walks and stages of life.

MPG’s Northern Ireland rep. met with Prime Minister Andy Burnham & Secretary of State Sir Chris Bryant at his last week.

It was part of a visit to the , Belfast’s pioneering music hub.

The PM discussed how politicians can take the music industry for granted, that it “will always somehow be there” because of its resilience, but for it to survive and prosper “it needs to be nurtured.”

Rocky spoke on the value of the song, not only as the core of creativity but also the driver of job creation, skill building, export, tourism, community & national identity.

It was agreed these skills and successes must remain in the UK and owned by UK businesses.

Rocky also spoke on his desire to build more networks for music creation across the UK, linking regional cities together to have a greater collective impact.

He added that sadly, this desire must be self-made. NI Gov have failed to agree their annual budget, 5+ months later than required. As a result, no arts funding has been delivered, leaving organisations in turmoil, businesses closing & musicians “being failed.”

This follows an alarming report from Westminster that arts funding in NI has been cut by 66% in real terms since 2010.

The pair were given the chance to perform a mix on the studio console as Bangor 4 piece performed through the glass.

They soon joined the band to discuss the group’s path as an emerging UK act; the depth of development & facilities needed. The PM enquired on realities of touring Europe and heard from the band on how they are juggling day jobs while signing record deals & joining their heroes on stages across the world.

Much praise was heaped upon the band, studio & music centre as the politicians departed what was hopefully the first meeting of many focused on improving our industry.

Rocky remarked of the studio discussion “I feel positive meeting two proactive music supporters. They truly understand how music is made and the value of it. They’ve given me motivation. I hope we can realise strong plans for music in NI & across the UK.”

The MPG is delighted to share that this month’s studio spotlight is , in North London! 🌟

Park Chapel’s Studio One, nestled in a beautiful mid-Victorian church on Crouch Hill, is a high-ceilinged day-lit tracking studio built around an SSL Origin console. 🎛️

The charming live room sounds superb and is favoured by bands live-tracking, as well as string ensembles, choirs – and film production companies. Studio One houses classic and eccentric gear; studio staples such as Neve 1073 channel strips, vintage Neumann U87s, tube condensers, and 1176s live alongside an original Deagan “Vibraharp” Vibraphone, a vintage ’63 Ludwig kit, a circa. 1900 Broadwood & Sons barless grand, and a prized “Butterfly” Wurlitzer.

Studio One hosts large bands and mid-sized ensembles, as well as TV and film production teams, and has an adjoining booth, lighting rig, kitchenette and air-conditioning.

Plamen Vasilev (.v) is a London-based music producer, mixer, mastering and immersive audio engineer, with a diverse range of credits across the music industry.

His work includes collaborations with artists such as Sam Smith, Loreen, Calvin Harris, Beverley Knight and Hikaru Utada, as well as a growing roster of emerging artists including Mae Muller, Mulaa Jones and Ellie Banke, to name a few. Recent projects include work with Melanie C, Anastacia, Ed Staal and Reya.

Alongside his stereo work, Plamen also works in immersive audio, with Dolby Atmos projects for artists including RULES, Caity Baser, Aria Ohlsson and Warriyo.

His career began with early experience working alongside Grammy-winning mixing engineer Steve Fitzmaurice and Grammy-nominated engineer Darren Heelis, before establishing himself as a freelance producer and engineer.

Plamen also brings extensive broadcast experience to his work, having worked as a mixing engineer and lead programmer on FOX TV’s prime-time music shows Name That Tune and Don’t Forget The Lyrics. His television work has involved mixing hundreds of performances and managing large volumes of music in demanding broadcast environments.

Working across records, immersive audio, television and live projects, Plamen has built a career around versatility, technical expertise and a strong understanding of what it takes to bring music from an idea to a finished production.

Plamen’s top tip? 🌟 Try new things and always be willing to step outside of your comfort zone.

Peter Glennie () completed his music degree at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1998 before heading out into the sweaty world of trying to be the next big Manchester band. After years of touring around the UK and various small label- and self-releases, Peter then moved onto various solo songwriting and composition projects, which culminated in the release of his first solo album ‘Everyone Looks Good In Black’ in 2008. Around the same time, he started working with Brett Dempsey Music as a tv and radio advert composer, writing for brands such as KFC, Flora, and BMW.

Since then, Peter has continued to write, produce, and release his own music, while doing production and arrangement work with bands around Manchester. Peter has also been working with the band James as a song doctor, arranger, instrumentalist, and producer on their albums ‘All the Colours of You’ (2021), and ‘Yummy’ (2024), the latter of which reached number 1 in the UK album charts.

Peter continues to work with James on their forthcoming album, alongside other production and composition projects, and has further solo releases lined up for late 2026.

Peter’s top tip? Star 🌟 It doesn’t have to be all or nothing - just do as much as you can!
