As part of the Harrow Music Festival 2026 we performed was a little classical gem: Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf – String Quartet No. 5 in E♭ major

Here is a little glimpse from our quartet performance of this beautiful piece by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739–1799), an Austrian composer, violinist and contemporary of Haydn and Mozart.

Written in the Classical period and published in 1788, this quartet is full of elegance, charm and that wonderful sense of musical conversation between the four instruments.

One of my favourite little facts about Dittersdorf? He was actually part of a famous quartet session with Haydn, Mozart and Vanhal around 1785 — with Mozart playing the viola! 🎻

So there is something rather special about playing music by a composer who once made music with Mozart himself. ❤️
