Posting a photo just because I want to reflect on how I used to do this. I recently went through my wedding albums stored on my phone and randomly selected a picture by closing my eyes. This is the one that came up. I plan to do this every week.

This photo is from the Asylum Chapel, an incredible venue in southeast London that I've always wanted to photograph. It’s a shot of Mairi & Jack; when you get married at the Asylum Chapel, you get some time after the ceremony to take beautiful photos inside this unique, rustic venue.

Sometimes a wedding inspires a little bit of design too.

I’ve just finished Z&J’s full wedding gallery from their day at Brockwell Hall, and while I was putting everything together I found myself looking at the wedding in a slightly different way.

The colours they chose. The details. The overall feeling of the day. Then the fonts and typography that seemed to belong alongside it.

I ended up creating a little monogram for them, simply because I felt inspired to.

It’s not something I create for every wedding, or something that’s part of my packages. It’s just something I enjoy playing with every now and then when a wedding sparks an idea.

Photography and design have always overlapped for me. Whether I’m composing a photograph or playing with type and colour afterwards, it all starts with noticing the details.

Good design and good photography both start with paying attention.

How I photograph a wedding.

Over the last few years, I’ve realised that my job isn’t to direct a wedding day. It’s to quietly become part of it.

Before I pick up my camera, I spend time watching. Every wedding has its own rhythm, and every couple is different. The more comfortable you feel, the more natural the photographs become.

My background in design taught me to notice light, composition and detail. Wedding photography taught me to notice people. Bringing those two together is where I feel most at home.

If you’ve forgotten I’m there, I’m probably doing my job well.

Because years from now, I don’t just want you to remember how your wedding looked.

I want you to remember how it felt.
