Stargazing, traditionally an outdoor pursuit, but for artist Isobel Church, observing the cosmos is an intimate experience we have engaged in for generations right from our homes.

We visited Church in her studio to discuss how natural phenomenon’s are central to her practice, and how her work explores the delicate line between myths, legends and scientific data.

As you step into The Sun and The Moon, your celestial journey begins at early hours of the morning sky.

Dedicated entirely to ‘dawn,’ Room 1 sets the stage for this extraordinary exhibition, as you’re greeted with costumes created for the character of Apollo in the Royal Opera production of ‘Semele’ (1982) to delicately painted depictions of the Hindu Goddess Krishna by Indian based artist Jai Khanna.

Come experience the first light for yourself.

An artist who never stopped creating, exploring and reflecting on his own life and the world around him. He did this with energy, elan and positivity. David Hockney created a huge splash and the ripples will continue to be felt for a very long time. Thank you Mr Hockney, and rest in peace.
