This season, why not treat your loved ones and share your support for Whitechapel Gallery by gifting an edition? We’ve collated some of our top choices for gifts this holiday season, for any budget.

Milly Thompson's 'Ray grows irritated with the wait' (2022) relates closely to two recent paintings by the artist, shown at the Whitechapel Gallery as part of The London Open 2022. Thompson’s women are enjoying the ageing process and have a sense of themselves as people who are looked at in public - as much concerned with style, posing and being framed as anyone else. With their ageing bodies they are still active members of society, engaged in ritualistic practices of self-care, and body maintenance.

Carlos Bunga created two silkscreen and paper collage works to accompany his Whitechapel Gallery exhibition, 'Carlos Bunga: Something Necessary and Useful' (21 January – 6 September 2020). These two editions are a continuation of Bunga’s ongoing series of drawings and works on paper titled ‘Nomads' which portray hybrid figures carrying architecture in the place of their heads. Bunga’s work shifts between the architectural spaces of house and city and a more personal psychic space. His evolving installations of everyday and domestic materials explore how we experience and necessarily coexist with the built environment.

Talbot’s edition derives from a drawing by the artist. Created as a silkscreen print onto Khadi paper - a natural handmade paper made from bark - Animal Guide, 2022 depicts a memory of a walk taken by the artist over Mount Etna, Sicily - when staying on the permaculture site.
The walk began at 5am and as the group started to climb the volcano a pale wild dog joined them and led the way to the top. For Talbot, who is interested in our connections with nature, being in this strange, black volcanic space - with craters, rock hard lava and burned trees from previous eruptions, accompanied by a very gentle animal was a very moving experience. The dog, an ‘animal guide’ stopped and waited at points and stayed as they sat for something to eat, watching the sunrise.

Paper size: 29.7 x 34.5 cm

Gaudi, 2022 takes its starting point from a drawing made by the artist in 2006, of a relief sculpture entitled Death of The Righteous, from Gaudi's Sagrada Família cathedral in Barcelona. The sculpture shows a young woman holding a baby at the bedside of a dying man. This drawing, which has hung in Cadwallader’s home for years, has recently taken on a new and unexpected significance, when earlier this year, the artist’s father died a few weeks before the birth of his first child.

Whether it be an abandoned factory, an attic or a kitchen table, it is the artist’s studio where the great art of our time is conceived and created. In this multi-media exhibition, the wide-ranging possibilities and significance of these crucibles of creativity take centre stage and new art histories around the modern studio emerge through striking juxtapositions of under-recognised artists with celebrated figures in Western art history.

The exhibition brings together more than 100 works by over 80 artists and collectives from Africa, Australasia, South Asia, China, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, North and South America.
