Unexpected Opera Now closed: no longer producing or performing Unexpected Opera takes a fresh approach to opera.

We specialise in zesty cabaret opera spiked with comedy, creating inventive shows which attract wider audiences to opera and provide a refreshing alternative for regular opera-goers. Using humour and an unexpected twist or two, we aim to liberate opera from conventions - without ever sacrificing rigour or quality - by producing stimulating and affordable operatic entertainment. OPERA NAKED, our flagship show, reveals why some people want to sing opera and what it takes to do it, with spectacular singing and comic vignettes. Our community projects - stagings of THE ARMED MAN and THE MESSIAH - brought together professionals, aspiring singers, students and amateurs in creative and moving collaborations. The Barber of Savile Row (Rossini) and Orpheus Down Under (Offenbach) won over audiences on two tours supported by Arts Council England, and at free performances at The Scoop by London’s City Hall.
