Extraordinary Design

Honoured to have my artwork for Hatton Cross underground station included in the London Transport Museum’s Art Deco poster exhibition. Fabulous PV last night including cocktails which I felt duty-bound to sample!
A snapshot of my 40 metre window artwork hangs alongside posters from design greats such as Edward McKnight Kauffer, Dora Batty, Jean Dupas and Munetsugu Satomi in the Global Poster Gallery. You can also see renowned architect Charles Holden’s stations, with sculptures on buildings by Henry Moore and Eric Aumonier as well as the glass car mascot known as Victoire by Rene Lalique.

My design paid hommage to Tom Eckersley’s Concord Tailfin mural at Heathrow Airport. His original artwork is on display here too.

Eckersley is one of the best known mid-century graphic designers who designed numerous posters for London Underground. He developed a style that emphasised geometric forms, flat graphic designs emphasising shape rather than depth of perspective, and a strong use of contrast by varying the size of elements, or using stark lines and shadowing with gradients. Eckersley’s style was similar in its approach to Modernist graphic designers in France and Germany during the same period.

Did you know that when a shirt collar becomes seriously worn and you’re thinking of chucking it… the collar can simply be taken out, turned, and stitched back in so it looks brand new?! I LOVE doing this and giving them many more years of wear 😊

I'm delighted to be one of the judges at New Designers this week, representing the Society of Designer Craftsmen.

For those unfamiliar with it, New Designers is the annual London exhibition showcasing the incredible work of design graduates from universities and colleges across the UK. I'm especially looking forward to discovering fresh talent across various disciplines, including textiles, ceramics, glass, and metal.

It runs over 2 weeks from 2nd - 5th July and 9th - 12th July 4th the Business Design Centre.

I’ve been working with the Dugdale Arts Centre for the last 6 months and this Friday we’re celebrating the upgrade and relaunch of their shop and transformation of their cafe (5pm - 10pm)
It’s a free event with craft demos and art activities that you can join in with if you like. Plus there’s a DJ and happy hour!
Be great to share the culmination of this project with friends if you fancy popping in.
