The artist's inspiration behind this piece came from a play in the Royal Court London in 1989 (Iranian Nights). The focal point of the girl pouring tea was formed around the character Scheherazade (played by Fiona Victory), the rest of this coulourful lavish scene was imaginary.

Evening on the Nile. This is one of the paintings which forms part of a series of paintings executed by artist R Lawrence in 2008 following recent travels to Egypt.

The scene captures a panoramic historical view of an iconic landmark in Egypt, the western bank of the river Nile, depicting a glorious sundown evening with a red to orange sky reflecting down into the rippled water, the buildings in the distance stand as orange silhouettes. To the left side of the bank is seen a cluster of females draped in blue costume standing near the edge of the bank with their water jugs whilst felucca boats sail across the Nile in the distance. `
