As part of K-Music Festival 2026, experience Wind Alone, Sand Alone – Make No Sound, an immersive sonic theatre performance where breath, voice, medieval chant, traditional Korean instruments, and ambient sound come together in a constantly evolving soundscape. Performed in the round, this captivating work invites audiences to explore music as a living, shared experience through resonance, space, and connection.⁠

Have you ever wished you could step inside a painting?⁠
⁠
Jean Song recreated the exact view from her living-room window at full scale, carefully matching the size of the original window and the spacing of its frames. Installed to mirror the original window, The First Window invites visitors to experience the view as though they were standing inside the artist’s own home.⁠
⁠
Inspired by the East Asian concept of 'wayu'—travelling through a landscape in one’s imagination—the work gently reverses the traditional relationship between viewer and landscape. Instead of looking at the picture from outside, visitors become part of the scene itself.⁠
⁠
More than a representation of an everyday view, The First Window transforms an ordinary window into a space where observation, imagination, and the viewer’s own presence become part of the artwork.⁠

Join us for a special screening of 'To the Last Day (1960)', accompanied by a pre-screening lecture by Dr Hyunseon Lee (PhD, Habil.), Professorial Research Associate at SOAS, University of London, celebrating the publication of her books Korean Film and Festivals (2022) and Korean Film and History (2023). ⁠

Shin Sang-ok’s masterful portrayal of a family coping with the realities of the Korean War won the Special Jury Prize at the 1962 Berlin International Film Festival. ⁠
⁠
Captain Kim is grievously wounded in the first days of the war. When the northern troops continue their advance, his wife and small daughters flee south to Daegu, dragging him along in a sledge. His wife struggles to keep herself and their surviving daughter alive. Working as a market trader, she meets a kind young man — who happens to be tall, dark and handsome. ⁠

Ink becomes thought, and brushwork becomes character.⁠

Among the most celebrated scholars and artists of the late Joseon period, Kim Jeonghui (pen name Chusa) transformed both painting and calligraphy through an approach that privileged inner cultivation over outward description. His distinctive Chusa-che calligraphic style remains one of the defining achievements of Korean art history.⁠
⁠
In Bamboo in Four Seasons, bamboo is not merely depicted—it is written. Rendered in swift, unbroken brushstrokes without enclosing outlines, each stroke functions simultaneously as bamboo and calligraphy. Rather than reproducing the visible world, Kim sought to express its inner spirit.⁠
⁠
Evergreen through every season, bamboo symbolised integrity, resilience, and the unwavering character of the seonbi. Kim captured these qualities not through meticulous realism, but through the rhythm, restraint, and vitality of the brush.⁠

What if time became part of the creative process?⁠
⁠
At first glance, Practice for Decorating a Shrine appears to be made from delicately patterned blue paper. In fact, the paper originally featured vivid multicoloured designs. ⁠
⁠
Inspired by the blue decorative paper found in Korean shamanic shrines, artist Choe Sooryeon purchased traditional dancheong-patterned paper and left it exposed to sunlight in her studio for 6 months to a year, allowing each sheet to fade naturally. She then scanned, reprinted, and reassembled the papers into a large-scale installation. ⁠
⁠
Created specially for , this installation consists entirely of modular dancheong paper, allowing visitors to appreciate the work both inside the gallery and through its windows. ⁠
⁠
Rather than simply preserving tradition, Practice for Decorating a Shrine explores how time itself can become a creative material, reshaping our understanding of Korean visual culture through memory, transformation, and change.⁠

A quiet, beautiful encounter with the late Joseon landscape awaits you!⁠

Calligraphy and Paintings of Kang Sehwang (1789) is an extraordinary album that brings poetry and paintings into one space. Since the album's pages are split for international exhibitions, different countries get to tell different stories.⁠
⁠
In our current exhibition 'Korean Traditional Painting in Alter-age: Pure and Hybrid', the artwork focuses on the profound Landscape (Sansu) paintings of Kang Sehwang (1713-1791, pen name Pyoam).⁠
⁠
Here, you'll witness Bang (倣)—the artistic practice of referencing a historical model (in this case, Ming master D**g Qichang) and redefining it with personal genius.⁠
