Tickets are now on sale for our production of Bizet’s Carmen on the 2nd May (1st Week Trinity Term) in the Sheldonian Theatre!
Get yours now here: www.ticketsource.co.uk/oxfordoperasociety

We're also delighted to be able to share our poster with you: designed by the incredible Anna Rooth!

Preparations are well underway and we can’t wait to welcome you to Oxford’s historic Sheldonian Theatre! Our fresh interpretation of the world’s most popular opera thrusts audiences into the heart of 1950s Seville, amid the chaos of Maquis armed resistance against a crumbling Francoist State. Cultural change is afoot, as Hollywood glamour sweeps the nation, steamrolling Franco-Catholic ideals and redefining womanhood forever.

Friday 2nd May, 19:30 in the Sheldonian Theatre. Tickets from £12.50 (from £8.50 Concession - Students and Children)

And today, sharing from our own past musical director Lucia Švecová who is conducting the Phoenix: A Benefit Concert in just over a week!

Conductor and producer Lucia Švecová from Bramley invites you to Phoenix: A Benefit Concert. The concert will support the Music School in Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia, which burnt down in 2023 and is trying to rebuild its activities to provide affordable specialist education in performing arts for children and young people.

This will be a unique immersive performance, premiering new works for chamber orchestra. You will be able to hear young talented players from across the country and support emerging composers. The concert will also have a special guest – Nina Kohout, Slovak singer-songwriter based in Brighton, who has been recognised by numerous music magazines in the UK as a rising star, having released her debut album in 2024.

This performance will take place at 8pm on the 6th of April 2025 in the Auditorium at St Catherine’s School in Bramley. We will be joined by the Headmistress of the Music School, who will introduce more closely what we are fundraising for. It is promising to be a night of exciting music and art, and we would love to see you there! Tickets can be bought online via the QR code on the poster, and a limited number will be available on the door. Find us on Instagram () and on

From our friends at Aylesbury Opera - this weekend Fri 28-Sun 30 March at the Dembe Theatre in Tring - one of the most devastatingly powerful operas in the repertoire, a compelling portrait of faith, fate and human endurance, Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites (1957) is all the more astonishing because it is the composer’s only full-length opera.

It’s the achievement of a supremely gifted song composer who, after a 40-year apprenticeship, finally used his skills to paint a larger dramatic canvas.

Based on a true story, the tragedy of Poulenc’s Carmélites is both a widescreen historical and political tragedy, and an intimate psychological exploration of faith. There’s both grandeur and austerity, impact and intimacy here in music that has all the melodic beauty of Poulenc’s songs, now intensified into sung drama.
