Shiny Shiny Medals (2010) One of the first things I did after getting back into art. Eventually it became part of my anti-army recruitment comic 'Join the Army' in 2013 which three different printing companies refused to print and which was called a "disgusting booklet" by The Sun and "sickening anti-military propaganda" by the Daily Mail.

Its available to order from my website: http://spellingmistakescostlives.com/product-page/join-the-army

It was through the Join the Army comic that I met Ben Griffin and Joe GLenton who were at that time in Veterans for Peace UK, and working with that organisation led to our Action Man: Battlefield Casualties film in 2015. That same year I joined VFP UK members John Boulton, Kieran Devlin and Ben Griffin to document them attempting to return, but ultimately discard their British army medals, berets and military oaths on the pavement outside Downing Street, after each giving a short speech explaining their reasons, including a rejection of militarism, being forced to attack civilians in Iraq and the recruitment of children into the armed forces.

I wrote down what John said as he discarded the medals, beret and oath.

"This is my oath of allegiance, something I had to recite in order to get a job as a soldier, at 15 years old I had little understanding of its true meaning. Now I fully understand the words, they have no meaning at all." - John Boulton

England leading the world in the amount of turds per cup in our rivers gives us a competitive advantage on the world stage. Olympic levels of s**t gushing from pipe to pier, and English sportsmen and women giving every last drop from both ends makes me so damn proud I cried an E.Coli-infused tear.

If for some reason you'd like this image as a print I've got some in my website shop:

Been meaning to add more vehicles to this but my attention is fickle and easily diverted.

More photos of this project including some terrain I made for it on my website under the Projects tab.

Today is international cat day but it should be 'international stop licking your arse and get a job' day.

J/k in a perfect society nobody should have to get a job or stop licking their own arse if they don't want to.

Strange to think even the excessive train ticket prices back then would seem like a bargain today.

In the run up to the 2024 election the "vote Labour" poster I designed was spotted in Wes Streeting's Ilford North constituency, on the same road as his MP surgery. It was then picked up by the The Telegraph, Daily Mail, GB News and even featured in the opening sequence on BBC Newsnight.

You can download the poster here:
https://www.spellingmistakescostlives.com/single-post/vote-genocide

This is what I wrote at the time:
"For the next election I'll be putting my weight behind efforts to make right wing Labour MPs lose their seats. And for the liberals in the comments who will berate me and others for not falling in line behind the most right wing Labour party since it's formation, please feel free to tell me some actual policies you're voting for, beyond simple loyalty to a different neoliberal brand of political party.

If you think you can pressure Labour after you've given them your vote, please explain how you think bargaining works in the real world. If you think we "just have to get the Tories out" then please tell me how that won't simply change into "we have to keep the Tories out" when you're berating people in a few years time for turning against a Labour government that offered us nothing.

To be honest though I have heard all of the arguments, and I can only assume by this stage that if you're still advocating for Labour then you haven't been paying attention to what the leadership stands for and the type of people who now run Labour, what they believe in and how they'll act in power. Because I feel like I've spent a lot of time trying to understand these people, and because of that I'm terrified at the prospect of a Labour government."

All the way back in 2011, I made a new episode of Cosmos with my friend Mark Tolson, by cutting up Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot audiobook, cataloguing any relevant words or phrases and then reassembling them all back into a documentary about a planet made from meat.

In this never before seen episode of Cosmos, Carl Sagan takes us on...
