How do you build a career around versatility?

For Bryan Okoye, the answer seems to be simple: never get too comfortable being one thing. 🎬

Born and raised in Jos, the multilingual Nigerian actor has steadily built a filmography defined by transformation. He speaks French, English, Patois, Igbo and Nigerian Pidgin, but his range goes far beyond language.

From his breakout performance as Azeez in My Name Is Azed, to playing an outlaw in Criminal, a hunter in Chetam, a struggling motorcycle rider in For Ikemefuna, and the psychologically complex Chizoba in Etiti, Bryan keeps finding new versions of himself on screen.

And the preparation can be just as fascinating as the performance.

🏍️ He learned to ride a motorcycle for For Ikemefuna.

🗣️ He learned Tiv for The Healing Rhythm, working with native speakers to understand pronunciation and cultural nuances.

🎭 For Etiti, he spent time at Yaba Psychiatric Hospital, studying behaviour, movement and psychiatric conditions to approach his character beyond familiar screen stereotypes.

His work has also earned international recognition, including a Best African Actor nomination at the Septimius Awards and a Best Supporting Actor win at the Crown Point International Film Festival.

His romantic roles, including Where Love Lives, reveal the warmth and vulnerability that have made him increasingly familiar to Nollywood’s huge digital audience.

Today, we celebrate Toyin Abraham, a woman whose journey through Nollywood has grown from performing in front of the camera to building, producing and directing stories of her own.

For more than two decades, Toyin has entertained audiences with her distinctive comedy, emotional performances and larger-than-life characters. From the unforgettable Yetunde of the Alakada universe to films including Elevator Baby, Prophetess, The Ghost and the Tout, Ijakumo, Malaika, Alakada: Bad and Boujee and many more, she has built a filmography spanning different eras of modern Nollywood.

But one of the most exciting chapters of her career has been her evolution from actress to producer, writer and director. 🎥

With Oversabi Aunty, Toyin stepped into the director’s chair while also writing, producing and starring in the film. The movie went on to cross the ₦1 billion mark at the box office, giving her another major milestone in an already remarkable career.

And her stories are travelling. 🌍 Earlier this year, Oversabi Aunty was screened in Berlin, Germany, another reminder of how Nigerian cinema continues to find audiences beyond our borders.

Through comedy, drama, entrepreneurship and filmmaking, Toyin has continued to reinvent herself while remaining unmistakably Toyin Abraham.
