🚨 140 MIGRANTS ARRIVE IN ONE SMALL BOAT — THEN PROTESTS ERUPT
A dinghy carrying around 140 migrants was intercepted in the English Channel on Sunday after making the journey from the Jobourg region of Normandy in France.
The migrants were taken to Portsmouth by two RNLI boats and were expected to be transported to the processing centre in Manston.
But the arrival quickly triggered a major protest.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Portsmouth, blocking roads and chanting “stop the boats” and “send them back.” Police and protesters clashed, while a dispersal order was put in place.
The UK government condemned what it described as “intimidating and thuggish behaviour”, while stressing that peaceful protest remains a fundamental right.
The incident comes just one day after anti-migrant protests disrupted access to the Port of Dover.
