Senegalese practice Worofila presents this year’s Rick Mather lecture, celebrating the work of architects who are making important contributions to thinking about sustainability. Led by Nzinga Mboup and Nicolas Rondet, Worofila is based in Dakar and creates bioclimatic architecture based around local, non-polluting materials, ancestral knowledge, and democratic systems of construction and maintenance. The lecture coincides with the publication of Ecosystems: A Contemporary African Architecture (MACK MACK) a survey of Worofila’s work to date, spanning housing, infrastructure, public institutions, and spaces for training and experimentation.

The London-based architect Takero Shimazaki Takero Shimazaki Architects discusses projects including the Stirling Prize-shortlisted Niwa House and the recently completed Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick. Shimazaki co-founded the practice t-sa in 1996, following earlier experience with Itsuko Hasegawa Atelier, Richard Rogers Partnership, and Alison and Peter Smithson. He is a senior lecturer in architecture at London Metropolitan University.

🎺NEW IN ARCHITECTURE ON STAGE: WALTERS & COHEN Walters & Cohen Architects

Founded in 1994 by Cindy Walters and Michál Cohen, their work places particular emphasis on creating inclusive, sustainable and enduring spaces that respond carefully to their surroundings.

Notable projects include the Dorothy Garrod Building at Newnham College, Cambridge, and the Vajrasana Buddhist Retreat Centre in Suffolk.

The practice has also developed an estates strategy for Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, helping shape the long-term future of its Grade II* listed Chamberlin, Powell and Bon campus.

Cindy and Michál will be speaking in the Frobisher Hall at the Barbican Centre on October 22nd. Tickets are available via the Barbican box office - link in bio.

What will London look like in the future?
What makes a city a fun place to be? On the final day of POST PRESS we’re inviting families in for a morning of making and imagining.

We’re stocking the courtyard with chalk, clay and cardboard, ready to be shaped by children into the city of tomorrow. At the end of the morning our young participants can show us what they’ve built and tell us about it.

Best for ages 5-11
Adults are asked to stay with their children Coffee and refreshments for sale
