Contemporary Geology
Featuring works by Kay Senior

Kay Senior’s work moves between printmaking and sculpture. The works in Contemporary Geology are process-led, drawing on materials found around the industrial estate where she has a studio in southeast London. She has responded to fragments of windscreen glass, using them to make a series of embossed collagraph prints and sculptures. The textures and layers incorporating broken glass and print may reference geology in terms of ancient rock formation, but with a contemporary connection to man-made scientific processes, the urban environment, and the Anthropocene.
In the process of printmaking from glass, the plates changed form, gradually disintegrating under the pressure of the etching press, mirroring the process of transformation to be found in areas of conflict and the natural world and in states of mind during times of loss, change, healing, and growth.

The world is chaotic and stressful. This exhibition brings together a collection of artists whose work takes you to places that bring joy or tranquillity. These are the artists’ happy places.

Michael and Lara draw on their cycling and travelling experiences to create paintings that transport us to another place, either via humour, Michael, or transcendence, Lara.

Caroline captures peaceful views both from memories and in situ. We feel her quiet contemplation and recollections.
Daniel paints his immediate surroundings here in his studio; the airiness and lightness of his touch convey the comfort in his space.

Susan takes us on a journey to ethereal or fantastical landscapes with her gentle, otherworldly scenes.
Both Tom and Vanessa return to familiar landscapes to record the restful, meditative qualities of water and the countryside. We are calmed by their paintings.

Nicole’s work reflects on her happy moments, memories of travel or the serenity of home.

4 artists of diverse practice where choosen to work with Walnut Works to develop a small body work of sculpture in bronze. The artists worked directly in wax and explored “burn outs”, embracing the potential of combustible material being translated into bronze.
The content ranged from personal memory, historical references, craft skills, motifs relating to folklore and self created narratives.

How Do I Bring You into My Presence brings together three sculptors whose practices explore traces of being—how memory, material, land and domestic space hold the imprint of lived experience. Across mixed media, fabric, film and found materials, the exhibition considers presence not as something fixed, but as something fragile, layered and continually reshaped.
B.A Adeyemo examines residues of human experience, mapping displacement, absence and the shifting terrain of identity. Through acts of deconstruction—stretching objects and ideas to their limits—Adeyemo reveals vulnerability embedded within material form, allowing memory to surface as something transient yet deeply felt.
Justine Hounam approaches sculpture as a kind of skin. Working with painted fabric stretched over furniture and found objects, she creates cast-like shells that retain the contours, cracks and histories of what once lay beneath. Removed and reformed, these surfaces become territories—psychological and domestic landscapes viewed from above. Accompanied by one-shot films, Hounam’s work reflects on the intimate negotiations of family life and the subtle politics of shared space.
Shaw turns to the land itself as both subject and collaborator. Rooted in the layered histories of place—from medieval traces to our Anthropocene present—their intuitive process responds to discarded materials and paint, weaving personal memory with collective inheritance. The resulting works evoke the fragile poetics of landscape, where human intervention and natural cycles are inseparable.
Together, these artists ask how we encounter one another through what remains—through skins, shells, fragments and fields of memory. How Do I Bring You Into My Presence invites viewers into a shared space of reflection, where inner and outer worlds meet, and where the act of looking becomes an act of gathering what lingers.

Works by Emma Sproat

Emma Sproat is a UK-based ceramic artist and recent graduate of the Royal College of Art, where she completed an MA in Ceramics and Glass.
Her practice challenges the historical constraints imposed upon sacred art while honouring the power of primitive forms and raw processes. Grounded in feminist ideology and personal reflection, Emma’s work interrogates both external social structures and internal states of being. As a woman navigating an increasingly complex and often hostile world, her practice operates as a form of resistance and reclamation.
Working intuitively and with immediacy, she approaches making as a stream of consciousness shaped by urgency and emotional truth. Each piece becomes both a personal exorcism and a public offering, inviting viewers into a shared space of vulnerability and strength. Her intention extends beyond communicating lived experience; she seeks to open a dialogue that resonates across both present and ancestral lineages.
Emma treats each artwork as a sacred object — devotional in essence yet liberated from patriarchal definitions of sacrality and divinity. Through mark-making, texture, sculptural form, and the integration of digital tools, she critiques and reconfigures what it means to be sacred, repositioning the feminine at its centre.
‘I am trying to remember’, emerges from the enduring wound left by the dismantling of the Sacred Goddess — a figure revered for millennia before her systematic erasure under patriarchal religions and male-dominated ideologies The work stands as a visceral and emotional response to that deliberate elimination, transformed into sacred objects freed from patriarchal ideologies, a remembrance of ancestral memory severed through generations. Rising from matriarchal ashes, these pieces function as acts of defiance — testaments to resistance, remembrance, and reclamation.
