What a gorgeous first week of rehearsals we have just had, including a day trip back to Gravesend to shoot a trailer for the show!

We’re so excited to be making this work and can’t wait to share it with you in the new year.

Here’s a sneak peek of sound designer/composer Keir Vine teaching the cast a song...and keep your eyes peeled for the trailer which should be landing early Jan.

Thanks everyone for all the support so far, and wishing you all a very happy festive holiday. See you all in 2019!

All the love

Britishness is a privilege? Or a right?
What makes someone British?

Reading this article and thinking about someone’s right to their claim to a national identity when their skin colour suggests something different...will we ever be able to get beyond race?

Absolutely thrilled to announce that GHOST GIRL // GWEI MUI has been awarded the Home Run Commission at Camden People's Theatre, and with funding from the Arts Council we will now be making the full production of the show!

We will be at CPT for from January 22nd - February 9th at 7.15pm, and are also featured as part of Chinese Arts Now's inaugural festival.

You can buy tickets here:

More news to follow, but for now here's a taster:

On a hot clammy muggy day in October
In a Chinese takeaway restaurant
A decision was made:
A woman was going to take another woman’s baby.
She thought she was getting a chow mein and instead she got a baby.
Six months later
From the top floor of a hospital
Wrapped in blankets and snuggled away
A woman called Janice and a man called Phil
Took home a baby girl.
Me.

Based on the personal story of theatremaker Jennifer Tang, who was born to Cantonese parents but raised by a white British family, this touching and highly theatrical new show asks what it really means to be British and Chinese in contemporary England, and how family, love and belonging all shape who and what we are

Hope to see you there!

Gwei Mui (Ghost Girl) is a new piece of live performance, currently in development by theatre maker Jennifer Tang. Made directly from content gathered in interviews, and inspired by the personal experiences and testimonies of British Chinese participants, it asks what it means to identify as British Chinese.
Gwei Mui aims to give voice to an over-looked and under-celebrated community in the UK, smashing once and for all the notion of an 'invisible minority'.

We are looking to speak to more participants about their experience of identifying as British Chinese. If you would like to contribute towards a new and exciting piece of live performance (anonymously, if you wish), please get in touch through our page or by emailing [email protected]. We are especially keen to hear from those who are British Born Chinese, or second/third generation.

Any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch, and please do share!

Love and thanks,
Gwei Mui team x
