It was way back in 1996 that Dr Alex Paterson first decided to explore his vast catalogue of remixes as the Orb, offering up the seminal Auntie Aubrey Excursions compilation. A sequel arrived in 2001, but nothing since. Given that 25 years have passed, this third missive is well overdue. While there are some unreleased and extremely hard to find revisions from the 90s present - see the opening rub of Coldcut and Hex's 'Timber' - for the most part this is later period Orb, where the usual ambient house and ambient dub exploits sit side by side with dubby and minimal techno and plenty of pleasingly psychedelic workouts - remixes aplenty for Youth's Liquid Sound Design label, of course, but also rubs of old pals System 7, ambient survivor and Weatherall collaborator David Harrow, Francesco Lombardo and the Transit Kings (itself an Orb offshoot).

Chris Scott and Scott Bradford are the UK house heads behind the Little Green Men project and they kicked out some tasteful jams back at the end of the 90s on labels like Paper Recordings and their own Forensic. This one has long been a cherished treasure by those who know and it finally sees a reissue which means you won't have to drop a week's wages on it on the seconds market. 'Time Changes' kicks off with some perfectly dubbed deep house that moves with enticing fluidity though smooth, sundown synth loops. It's proof that less is more, while 'Spaced' gets a little ore defined but no less deep and immersive as the raw drums jack ever so gently below more soft, swirling melodies that having you gazing off into the cosmos.

Plaid - Itsu.

Released in 1997 on Warp Records, ‘Itsu’ showcases the duo’s intricate blend of glitchy electronics, delicate melodies and intricate rhythms.

The video mirrors the track’s constantly shifting sound with abstract, futuristic visuals, creating a hypnotic world that feels both organic and machine-made.

Geordie funkateer Smoove is a vastly experienced producer and party-starting DJ, so it should come as no surprise that his ongoing Multi-Track Reworks Series - titled thus as he rearranges and remixes using the original session recordings - has so far delivered some genuinely fantastic revisions. Volume 15 lands and, as expected, it boasts fine flips of two familiar favourites. On 'Was That All It Was', he stretches out a funky, horn-toting soul favourite, building the track via an extended groove section, sustained chords and choice vocal snippets. 'Runaway Love', meanwhile, gets a similar treatment, with the mid-tempo disco number being stripped back to reveal crispy drum-breaks, warming bass, spacey synths and the headiest of horn licks - oh, and some previously unused studio chatter.

Nightmares on Wax - Les Nuits.

Released in 1999 on Warp Records, ‘Les Nuits’ captures George Evelyn’s signature blend of downtempo beats, soulful samples and hazy electronic textures.

The video follows a surreal, dreamlike journey through nighttime streets, perfectly matching the track’s laid-back, cinematic atmosphere.

Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell's popular and long-running Edits & Overdubs series of hush-hush reworks releases has so far included inspired takes on tracks by everyone from Nina Simone, Michael Jackson and Rosie Gaines to Radiohead, Instant Funk, Can and Yello. Here he turns his attention to another beloved artist, Quiet Storm specialists Sade, delivering a typically stretched-out take on 'I Never Thought I'd See The Say'. As you'd expect, it sees the Body & Soul NYC resident combine the soft soulfulness, dreamy instrumentation and memorable vocals from the British band's original mix with a sumptuous deep house groove and his usual layered percussion rhythms. It's as classy and sympathetic to its source material as you'd expect, while gently escorting the song closer to deep house dancefloors.

Follow The Sun is a fresh re-edit imprint of unknown origin, with the producer or artists behind the project wishing to keep things mysterious. The vibe is deep, Balearic-minded cuts lightly re-framed for house-friendly dancefloors. This is particularly evident on fantastic A-side 'The Spell', a luscious, percussion-rich Latin house re-edit of Gabor Szabo's 1966 jazz masterpiece 'Spellbinder'; naturally, the original artist's impeccable jazz guitar solos are utilised to the full for added emotive impact. Over on side B, our mysterious heroes take on Penguin Cafe Orchestra's jaunty, art rock-goes-folk classic 'Air a Danser', subtly stretching it out and beefing it up while showcasing Simon Jeffes and company's brilliantly blissful instrumentation.
