Studio Etart A small artist run studio created by Emma Niamh Turpin

Last Thursday in my studio, it was 33 degrees outside and my to do list was longer than usual.

Upcoming holiday, no childcare, day job hectic.

But I decided to turn off my phone and pick up some pink crayons and watercolour and lost myself for an hour. Magic. ✨

Forgot the heat, the lists. My body felt good at the end. My mind clearer.

Go find the thing that gives you that feeling.

Big love

The studio is hot but still probably the coolest place in my “house” so I’m delighted to be back in there playing around with new ideas.

Still obsessing over the how our internal selves, our emotions, interact with our physical bodies. And colour. Always colour. Like I’m always thinking how are you feeling??

A few of my fave small works are still available and I have been enjoying popping them in various spots around the house.

Which one is your favourite? I definitely have a soft spot for 3.

Sometimes the little ones are the best ✨

I’m [slowly] working on some prints and new paintings in amongst the busy summer.

A print of this cutie will be part of that release come autumn.

The original is still available to collect for now. Send me a dm if you want more info.

Last Tuesday evening I was in the studio and really struggling to start. Just somehow each stroke refused to come out/ make sense / get in flow.

And it kind of made me realise how often my painting practice parallels decision making in my life.

I think I’m always searching for elusive clarity, as if the big picture will reveal itself to me and my life will be sorted.

But my paintings never come to me like that so I don’t know why I’d expect life to be any different. They start with a line, maybe a feeling, a rough sketch, a colour.

And they turn out pretty good. Right?

Maybe you don’t need all the answers just decide what you can do today that’s the next best step.

The title of this painting, as with all of them, came after if was finished.

‘Under a pink Sun’

And then I searched and found, perhaps unsurprisingly , that my camera roll was full of them. Pink suns and skies. Vietnam, Hackney and Kefalonia.

From the dark grey day of march I wished fr the warm and the expanse of those skies and seas.

I love that way all those small things that we accumulate over our days and months and years feed into our output.

They create not only the colour palette but the emotions too.

How is everyone’s Tuesday?

I don’t know about you but time is on some kind of warp speed and surely it can’t move more than 6 months into the year?

Here are somethings I am learning, or re-learning.

How bout you?
