At least I’m smiling this time ;)

Half way through The Other Art Fair and it’s been so great meeting so many collectors and artists.

And find homes for pieces that I was also sad to see go.

It was so gloomy yesterday but was determined to take some photos of this beauty (the painting not me!). Maybe the grey clouds meant I look more serious than I am.

She’s up and hanging The Other Art Fair (see stories!) and I hope she finds a lovely new home this weekend. Although also quite into how it looks in my kitchen too.

Who knew Batman was so powerful (see slide 6)?

I know we are all bored of hearing about how motherhood changes us but somehow it’s the reason I was able to get out of my almost decade long creative drought (I’ll write an essay on that some day!)

Certainly being a parent somehow inadvertently inspires me to work harder on myself, on my art, to try and do something I’m proud of so he’s proud of me.

It kind of goes against all the stories I heard in my 20s that being a parent ruins your life/ holds you back.

But balance - ha! Guilt - haha! That’s another thing.

This week it’s early mornings and late nights in the studio around the day job as I get ready for next week’s show.

I’ve pushed to finish stuff (even a new painting that is NOT the female form 👀 check out slide 8..)

And I’ve been thinking about how cringe it can feel to try in public.

But then at this stage I know that my work improves by trying. Being awkward. And so it’s worth the risk.

Also time is going to pass anyway.

Maybe if you start trying (like really) you find out what feels like you. That doing hard things is fun even?

Making art in the cracks of an already quite mental life can feel like a lot.

Deciding what art you want to live with also feels like a lot.

But I think both can provide such an escape from our busy overly filled lives. I know for me lying in bed looking at my favourite original lithographic feels like a solace the same way studio painting can do.

Anyway with what small capacity I have I’m exhibiting as part of The Other Art Fair with the hope to talk to (you?) about creativity, art and enjoying life’s beautiful things.

I’d love to see you there.
