I am writing to address recent events concerning my play 'Brexitus Nexticus,' which is scheduled to be staged at The Hope Street Theatre in Hope Street, Liverpool on on 2nd 3rd and 4th of July this year.
This production is the 4th in a series of comedies that I have written and presented across the City. Each has been a rewarding and well - received experience for myself, the casts and our audiences, and I remain deeply proud of the work we create together.
However during the course this production an issue arose involving a member of the cast made an unacceptable racist comment on social media about another member of Liverpool's acting community. I want to clearly state that that this comment in no way reflects the values of the project, the people who are engaged in it, or the spirit of the work itself.
The individual in question was immediately removed from the production, and will have no further involvement. At the time I chose to handle the issue internally, as I did not want to amplify a statement that has no place in our community, nor our society. In hindsight I realise that my not addressing the matter publicly has led to confusion and concern. I sincerely apologise for this, especially to anyone who has been hurt. We remain committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive and supportive environment for everyone engaged in our works.
