✨ An update on our branding & Ophelia news!✨
It's been a while - we've been quiet, taking a break from Moonlighters and thinking about the future and how to continue making work in an industry that is increasingly more challenging.
🌙 Here's what we know:
We've loved making work under The Moonlighters Collective umbrella - from our ACE funded R&D's of 'Ophelia' and 'Dear Beryl', to our comedy and writing events, to our engagement with schools, youth theatres, and community groups. We've loved creating work in and for Cumbria (and beyond) and want to extend a big thank you to the individuals and organisations who have supported us: Theatre by the Lake, Box of Tricks, the Makerspace, Papyrus and Every Life Matters (for our 'Ophelia' R&D), 53Two and the wonderful support from anyone who has ever watched our work in person, digitally or come to one of our events.
We also know that as two freelancers from low-income backgrounds we have struggled with burnout working this way, juggling funding applications, maintaining an online prescence, creating work and managing our individual careers whilst doing the really important things like paying the rent. As a result of juggling lots we felt our individual identities as artists became lost. After our original tour plans for 'Ophelia' fell through last year, we both took a big break from The Moonlighters Collective and it brought clarity. We're now really excited to say that 'Ophelia' has been programmed by Theatre by the Lake this autumn (keep reading for more details)!
What we know now... We still love making work together but we also need to feel recognised for our separate artistic identities as theatre-makers. We love making work in and for Cumbria but we want the freedom to expand beyond. We want the flexibility to make work sustainability and access as many opportunities as we can at this early stage in both our careers.
🌙 So what's next?
We're still going to be working together but not under The Moonlighters name. Instead we will be using our artist names, Amy Clark and Han-Roze Adonis (yep, they have been updated too). Our individual artistic practices (Amy as a performance artist, maker and producer and Han-Roze as an actor, writer and theatre-maker) will continue to drive our 'Ophelia' journey as a collaborative project - with 'Ophelia' returning to Theatre by the Lake this autumn! Tickets on sale now via the TBTL website.
We will also continue creating our own separate work. We're leaving this profile up (at least for now) as a celebration of the work we made together but from now on you'll see us working (individually and together) in a new way. We don't use Facebook much so the best way to stay in touch is via Instagram at and .clark_ for updates.
We always aim to be honest and we want to be transparent in our process - the ups and the downs, there's no gatekeeping here. We'd love your support as we continue this journey.
Most of all we hope to see you at Theatre by the Lake on November 2nd for 'Ophelia'! We've worked so hard to get this show to audiences, please come out and support Cumbrian work!
