A closer look at some of my handmade silver jewellery, including amethyst and pietersite rings, the Highland Hearth Carnelian Necklace, snowflake obsidian, heather amethyst, ammonite and moss agate.

I make each piece by hand in my Liverpool workshop using recycled silver and carefully chosen gemstones. My designs are shaped by Scotland, ancient finds and the darker character of old silver.

Yesterday I shared several new Labradorite designs. This is where they began.

Every stone has a different flash, pattern and character, so no two finished pieces could ever look quite the same.

Labradorite can appear smoky and subdued one moment, then suddenly reveal a sharp flash of blue, green or gold. Turning these stones in the light helped shape the designs I shared yesterday.

I’m now deciding which designs to make first. Which one would you most like to see become a finished piece?

If I had to choose one necklace to show where Silver Thistle Workshop is heading, it would be Highland Hearth.

The carnelian glows like firelight through the centre. Around it, I’ve built a broad silver heart inside a hand-textured circle—bold, substantial and impossible to overlook.

This isn’t a delicate little heart that disappears against your clothes. Highland Hearth has presence. It feels almost like an old piece of Scottish silver brought out of a family chest, ready to become part of somebody else’s story.

I made it by hand from recycled silver in my Liverpool workshop, and it bears an Edinburgh hallmark. The pendant measures approximately 4.5cm, so you can see every detail when it’s worn.

There is only one Highland Hearth necklace.

This is one of the pieces that feels most like Silver Thistle Workshop to me.

My contemporary design is inspired by Scottish heather, made by hand in recycled silver with a small purple amethyst set into the stem.

It isn’t a large or showy necklace. I made it delicate and interesting, like a heather flower on the hills of Scotland.

There is only one of these and I will not make another one.
