Bogotá’s bus routes made art!

Celebrate movement, urban living and exploration with Trayectos, an art collection inspired by the hand-painted signs found on Colombia’s bus routes.

Rooted in Latino popular culture, these striking prints transform everyday street typography into bold, expressive wall art that tells a story of travel, connection and d scovery.

“Coated paper keeps ink on the surface of the paper rather than absorbing it into the fibers.

Think of when you’ve accidentally left an uncapped marker on a napkin: the ink bleeds across the napkin.

This is what happens with uncoated paper and printing ink.

The intended image can get blurry and expanded around the edges.

Coated paper, however, results in sharper and more detailed images, with less bleeding and feathering of ink.

This means sharper images and more detail than you can typically get with uncoated paper.

Printers call this spreading effect Dot Gain.”

Thanks to Walsworth printers for the excellent explanation.

Gonzalo Fuenmayor tackles Hollywood’s fetishising of Latin American culture head on.

His Carmen Tropical prints transport us to an era when bananas and exotic birds were used in US popular culture to portray Latin Americans as exotic and primitive.

Think Brazilian actress Carmen Miranda singing ‘The Lady in the Tutti Frutti Hat’.

For Gonzalo:

“When I go back to Colombia I’m the ‘gringo’, but when I’m in the US I’m always struggling to fit in.

Should I draw, paint, or act in a specific way to blend in? My way of dealing with this is to become very exotic or a hybrid.

It’s between these two cultural spaces that I’ve been negotiating my own identity.

And I use my own conflicted sense of being to ask questions in my art.”

But can AI do THIS?!

Daniel Acuña's meticulous drawings of clouds are created by covering the paper completely with charcoal and then carefully erasing it to create the white of a cloud.

The result is a soft and textured image: grainy, real and tactile.

Made all the more amazing when you know what goes into its creation.

It's a slow and deliberate technique that Daniel compares to meditation. Focusing and calming the mind until all else around disappears. It's just the artist and his materials.

And the results are breathtaking.

"For me, these drawings are about seeing what emerges as I create. That is, as I create something out of nothing.

I work with a bar of compressed charcoal.

I pulverise it to turn it to a powder and then spread the powder evenly on the paper until it’s black.

I then start to remove the charcoal with an eraser, to create light by revealing the white of the paper.

In essence, I draw in reverse."
