In today's session at we did portraits (cue my disappointed groan at the beginning of the lesson because I hate doing portraits 🤣) | Taught by the lovely Naomi Hewson

Tbf I think my drawing skills are improving as is my sense of proportion, something I've really struggled with for a really long time.

Today we had to paint the shadows and form the face around that, and I am honestly pleased with how it came out! It actually looks like a person 🤣

Only four more lessons left until the end of the course 😞 I can't wait to carry on with it though!

I found this session slightly difficult as landscapes are quite overwhelming with lots of information on the page. It was my first time using chalk pastels and I definitely prefer them to oil pastels! They are messy though 😅

Exciting news too - I've submitted a painting for the Learners Exhibition at the Adult Education College. Hopefully it's accepted!

A day late because I genuinely forgot to post yesterday but here is my update from yesterday's Friday Sketchbook Sessions | Taught by Austin at the Attenborough Arts Centre

We did continuous line drawing for 30 minutes, and then a normal drawing, just to see the difference.

The last time we did continuous line drawing I really struggled, mostly because my focus kept wavering (my attention span is cooked!). This time though, I really enjoyed it, and I definitely feel like the continuous line version has more character to it.

My drawing skills have definitely improved and I'm so glad I decided to take part in these sessions!

In today's session we looked at abstract florals, using watercolour pencils and ink | taught by the awesome Naomi Hewson at Leicester Adult Education College

I thoroughly enjoyed this session - it was right up my street as I love doing anything floral-related.

It has also inspired me 😁 Ink and nibs were the first thing I used when I started out doing calligraphy, and now that I've moved onto brush pens, I've realised I can use my leftover inks to paint with 😁

I know I haven't posted much calligraphy for a while but I promise there will be a reel coming soon 🤞🏼Hope everyone had a good Bank Holiday yesterday as well!

In today's sketchbook session we practiced ascemic writing (which I had never heard of but definitely seen before) | taught by Austin at the Attenborough Arts Centre

Ascemic writing is when the text looks like writing but actually isn't (its just nonsensical loops etc). I did end up writing bits of the alphabet because my calligraphy mind kicked in 🤣

Overall really enjoyed the session and I'm feeling inspired with the ascemic writing - perhaps calligraphy in the background of a painting? 🤔

My drawing skills lacked today though 😅 I think my drawings from previous sessions have been much better haha!

Today was the 2nd lesson in the Watercolours for Beginners classes at Leicester Adult Education College | Taught by Naomj Hewson

We studied tones and light/dark areas - I chose to focus on a single part of the reference photo just to make things easier, and I'm glad I did, as I managed to finish it in the time given 😅

Very happy with this except i chose the wrong shade of grey and the bell pepper looks mouldy 🤣 and blending shadows is so satisfying 😊

In today's session we went floral!

This was tricky to do - we did the outlines first and then filled in the details. The final touch was a little bit of watercolour 🎨

I found myself holding my breath because I was concentrating so much 😅

Scroll to see the final piece... I definitely think I'm improving with drawing and painting 😊
