If we want Leicester Caribbean Carnival to be here for another 40 years and beyond, we have to make sure our young people can find their place in it, and have the freedom to do Carnival their way.
That means listening to them, creating opportunities for them to lead and giving them a real voice in what Carnival looks and sounds like.
It also means putting our money where our mouth is. We want to create a dedicated budget for the artists and acts young people tell us they want to see, alongside the traditional sounds, mas and cultural experiences that make Caribbean Carnival what it is.
Because keeping our heritage alive doesn’t mean standing still.
Our responsibility is to pass on the history, culture and significance of Caribbean Carnival, while giving the next generation the space to interpret, celebrate and carry it forward in ways that feel relevant to them.
New sounds. New ideas. New creativity. Same roots!!!
We want young people not just attending Carnival, but performing, designing, creating, volunteering, producing, leading and eventually becoming its custodians.
That’s how our Caribbean heritage lives on.
same time next year, yeah! 🇦🇬🇧🇧🇩🇲🇬🇩🇬🇾🇯🇲🇲🇸🇰🇳🇱🇨🇻🇨
