Racism in the drum and bass scene is heartbreaking, and honestly, I struggle to understand how it can even exist in a culture that was born out of unity, freedom and togetherness.

This scene grew from the original acid house days, when people from all backgrounds, creeds, colours and social classes came together through one shared love of music. Nobody needed to be the same. We just needed to feel the music. That’s what made the movement so beautiful. ❤️

Drum and bass was built on those foundations. It brought people together who might never have crossed paths in everyday life. It broke down barriers, created friendships and gave so many of us a place where we belonged.

So how can racism find a home in something that was built on bringing people together?

It genuinely saddens me, because this culture means so much to me. I’ve lived and breathed this music for decades, and I know what it represents at its very best.

Music has no colour. Bass has no boundaries. And unity should never have an expiry date.

We cannot celebrate the culture while turning a blind eye to the very thing that goes against everything it was built on.

We have to do better. We owe it to the culture, to the people who built it, and to the generations coming through who deserve to experience the same love, freedom and togetherness that made this scene so special in the first place.

PROTECT OUR CULTURE. PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY. PROTECT THE BBE STORE. ✊🏿

The BBE Store has been an integral part of London’s soulful music scene for years. It’s more than just a record store. It’s a meeting place for DJs, music lovers, collectors and creatives. A space where independent filmmakers and documentary makers have been able to screen their work, share stories and keep our culture alive.

Places like this are becoming few and far between, and that should concern every one of us.

Gentrification has gone too far. The people and businesses that give our communities their identity are increasingly being pushed out, while people with no roots in that culture arrive and try to dictate what stays and what goes.

You cannot move into a community, benefit from its character and then expect to rewrite its identity to suit your own preferences.

These places are the heartbeat of our culture. They carry history, heritage, memories and a sense of belonging that money simply cannot replace.

Once they’re gone, they’re gone. And no amount of luxury flats or trendy new businesses will ever replace what we’ve lost.

We have to stand together and protect the spaces that protect our culture. This isn’t just about the BBE Store. It’s about the future of our music, our communities and our cultural identity.

London must not lose the very things that made it special in the first place.

WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO HUMANITY?

The amount of people making jokes and creating AI images about a young man who tragically lost his life in a tiger attack is absolutely disgusting.

A young man has died. A family is grieving. And people are turning their tragedy into entertainment for likes and laughs.

There’s a difference between having a sense of humour and having absolutely no humanity.

Whatever happened to compassion, empathy and basic human decency?

Honestly, some of the things I see online make me sick. 💔
