Meet one of our recent attendees! 👩‍🎨

Grant Clark is a self-taught mixed-media artist based in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. His intuitive process begins with expressive mark-making, using materials ranging from biro, crayons, and paint sticks to more traditional acrylics and oil pastels. By juxtaposing loose, cartoonish lines and humorous phrases with recurring motifs, Grant’s work explores the complexities of the human experience-and the importance of seeing the funny side.

Since he began making art in 2019, Grant has been influenced by outsider art, vintage tattoo flash, Basquiat, and punk rock. He believes that art is less about technical perfection and more about the emotional truth behind each mark. His work aims to resemble an inebriated cartoon or the lewd tattoos on a sailor’s arm, creating pieces that resonate both personally and universally while embracing the journey over the final outcome.

💬 “The feedback was really encouraging and sparked some new ideas for how I can grow my practice. It was such a great experience-l’d totally recommend it to anyone, no matter what kind of creative work they do!”

You are more than just your art practice, but that’s not to say that all the surrounding ‘life’ doesn’t have an impact. Understanding your unique point of view and experiences can shape what is important in your art! Are you a traveller, logical thinker, hiking lover, etc? How do you think this shapes your creative output?

Meet one of our recent attendees! 👩‍🎨

Leonard Baske is a UK based visual artist who presents disordered mental experiences as valid and meaningful, viewing them as a separate dimension of reality. He uses a non-judgemental regard to enter an enchanted realm where truth can be revealed, which would otherwise remain hidden.
His experimental films provide depth to document and evoke altered perceptions, and create a visual reality where awareness is enhanced and biases are removed.

We don’t always think about first impressions, when as artists we have lived with the works for so long. The Art Crit can be a good opportunity to discuss this, and get some fresh reactions 💬
