Three weeks ago today, I was a passenger in a serious car accident that left me with a fractured pelvis in two places, five broken ribs, a broken tailbone and a ruptured T5.
Despite the injuries, I somehow managed to climb out the back of the car, get myself out of a ditch and flag down a passing car to call an ambulance. Looking back now, I can only believe I had angels watching over me. Even my surgeon said, “You must have had all the gods with you.”
More than anything, I’m counting my blessings. I’m grateful to be alive, grateful I’ve still got my legs, grateful for my family, my friends, and the incredible medical team who looked after me.
A special thank you to my surgeon, Prof. Giannoudis, for the incredible job he did rebuilding my pelvis with three screws and no external fixators, and to every nurse and member of staff at Leeds General Infirmary who took such great care of me throughout my stay.
I’m now home recovering, on the mend and getting a little stronger every day. It’s going to be a journey, but I’m staying positive and taking it one day at a time.
Thank you to everyone who’s checked in, sent messages, prayed for me and shown love over the last few weeks. It means more than you’ll ever know.
This experience has given me a whole new perspective on life and reminded me not to take a single day for granted.
