Join us on Friday 18th September for 'Creating, Dancing and Living with Parkinson's'!

'Creating, Dancing and Living with Parkinson's' celebrates the work of our trainee choreographers, with new works by our performance company Fuse Dance Collective and a new film by Pishdaad Modarassi.

You'll also see Murmurations, created and performed with groups from across Leeds and Bradford, and there's an optional chance to join in some dancing before we enjoy afternoon tea, complete with music from Georgia Jakubiak and a film by Leeds student Olivia Davies.

AND, we’ll be launching our new sector toolkit, created with Dr Mel Brierely, sharing our knowledge and experience of developing artists with Parkinson’s which you can use in your practice and/or organisation.

Tickets cost £10 and include a delicious afternoon tea and live music.

Just back from a three‑day Advanced Practice Lab - Dancing with Parkinson’s training course with David Leventhal, visiting from New York and the person who inspired me to set up our programme eight years ago.

It was wonderful to learn from his vast experience and to spend time with so many talented people from across the sector, such a generous, creative community.

I’m looking forward to put some of these ideas into practice.

Patrick is through the finish line on another sunny Parkinson’s UK Walk, raising funds for this vital charity. So good to bump into so many friends today. This is a wonderful community, and we can do so much together.

Huge thanks to Team Ascendance and to Sky (my dog) & Will for walking, gazebo building and supporting along the way.

I even heard there is a dog walk fundraiser in the Autumn.

Ascendance are seeking 3 dancers to perform with us for our Season of Culture Garden Project at Temple Newsam Park, alongside our dance company Fuse Dance Collective. Dancers should be based in or near Leeds.

This is a paid opportunity.

Essential:
• Experience working with older adults, or a willingness to learn.
• Interest in joining our wider pool of regular dance artists.

We welcome mature dancers and people with Parkinson’s.

Availability required:
• 26 & 28 August – 10.00am–5.00pm TEMPLE NEWSAM PARK
• 8 September – 11.30am–12.30pm ST CHADS
• 11 September – 12.00pm–3.00pm LEEDS RHINOS HUB
• 18 September – 11.30am–6.00pm QUEENS HALL, LEEDS

As we wrap up an extraordinary year with 350+ classes, 10 shows and 2 new films - I’m feeling incredibly proud of what we’ve built together.

Huge thanks to our brilliant Ascendance team, volunteers, teachers, placement students, partners, filmmakers, musicians, choreographers, managers, trustees, and of course our wonderful dancers. You’ve made this year unforgettable.

Last night at was the perfect end to our summer tour. Here are a few moments from Our Grand Day Out - dipping our toes into the water and soaking up every second.

A huge well done to all our inspiring performers, and a big thank you to the Northern Ballet team for making this incredible festival happen.
