Last year I completed my Makaton Stage 1 course with Makaton Training with Heather. I use signs in most of my preschool classes now. I highly recommend Heather’s courses.

When I was asked to do a video sign for her page of course I said yes!

August 2026! What a month (so far).

How are we in the last week of the school holidays already! 🤔

Always a juggling act being a self employed parent in the school holidays. Both wanting to say yes to the right opportunities and yes to quality time together as a family too.

August has been a busy blend of both! Which I’m feeling very grateful for.

Thank you to all my new and existing partnerships that have kept me busy over the summer. Intergenerational sessions, holiday club workshops, baby and toddler classes and family storytelling.

JUST CHECKING 😉

Our monthly Sunday Family Story classes come round quickly and have lots of lovely familiar faces returning each month 🥰.

But just in case you’ve not made it to one yet, or maybe you just need a reminder of what they’re all about if it’s been a while.

So here I am, just checking on you and your weekend plans!

I love taking a story from the written page and then making it my own and bringing it to life without a book and just our imaginations…

How lucky I am that this is my job. And even though it’s the summer holidays and most of my school/nursery sessions are having a break, I’ve been so lucky to continue working. Holiday clubs, preschool meet ups, Intergenerational sessions in care home. Lovely ways to bring more stories to life and keep me busy.

And there’s lots of planning underway for September and into the Autumn with more stories for more children and I’m so excited.

Olaf the Whale loved to watch children on the beach building sandcastles. 🫍

He wished he could build one but his family always said “Whales can’t build Sandcastles. Whales belong in the sea!” So when he bumped into a bucket floating in the ocean he decides to try anyway and see what happens.

Join me for a lovely adventure building sandcastles as we go! 🏰

I’ve had lots of interest in my advert for part time storyteller which is fantastic!

Just a reminder if you’ve been in touch for an application form but not yet submitted it, please send it in by close of play this Friday!

Here’s a reminder of the details.

❤️ Full training is provided, so no prior knowledge of Debutots needed.

📅 Starting in October 2026 with a small number of classes initially ideally increasing as the business grows.

📅 Training to take place during August/September/October as required.

🚗 Own transport is essential as sessions are across multiple venues.

✅ You’ll ideally have:
• Experience working with children, drama or education
• An enhanced DBS (or be happy to obtain one)
• Lots of energy and warmth
• A professional and reliable manner

💷 Self-employed basis. Starting at £22.50ph depending on session delivered.

This fits really well alongside other work or commitments - it is an amazing, rewarding and flexible role!

I’m looking for an enthusiastic, reliable freelance practitioner to join me running drama and storytelling classes for young children across nurseries, schools and for our Intergenerational sessions in residential care homes across Central, West and North Leeds

Debutots is an award-winning set of classes using story, rhyme, drama and music — think puppets, bubbles and tons of imaginative play!
