This pretty much sums up today. Disconnected the engine for removal. Or in other words. Pretzeled my person into inhumane shapes, scratched limbs on cut cable ties and got covered in all manner of oil, diesel, coolant, salt crystals, rust, dust and mystery goo🧘🏻‍♀️

Buuuuuuut we did it. Stinky is ready for lift off 🚀

And yes for those concerned we will be replacing the elbow💪🏻 (human and machine).

This week we were reminded by to check our engine raw water inlet filter before leaving Culatra due to the notorious floating reed in the anchorage.. and had quite the catch to remove (thanks for the reminder!)…

At the same time I thought “oh I’ll just do a bilgey (our automatic bilge pump) check whilst I’m here.. it was working last week, but hey what’s one more check…… and so I turn the test dial and…… nothing(!)

If water enters the bilges, it’s this auto switch that automatically starts pumping out the water! Very important safety device… especially if we are ashore having a beer!

So upon further inspection, a very old (it will be changed) cable had corroded in the moist bilges(!), preventing bilgey from getting volts! ⚡️

Moral of story.. check your automatic bilge pump!
