At yesterday's rehearsal, we learnt a new tag. A tag is a short, dramatic climax to a song. Tags are used in warm-ups as a way of challenging us as singers to learn quickly by ear, lock chords and unify our sound.
In this one, "Sunshine Is Bidding The Day Goodbye", our MD, Jack, got us to sing it through just seated to begin with. We then improved upon this the next time by standing up. The third time we sang it, we were asked to really think about the words and to be positive. Next, Jack wanted us to be as free and silly as we wanted with our movement/gestures. Finally, he asked us to lose any of the silly stuff, but to keep the quality of the sound we produced. This was a great excercise for us to really feel the difference from start to finish.
