Today at Eau Brink Studio we’ve been immersed in memory, storytelling and mixed media with textile artist Ruth Holmes.

Our learners have been creating the beginnings of their own Memory Books exploring layered backgrounds using fabric, paper, paint and stitch.

Throughout the workshop everyone experimented with different ways of applying paint to a variety of substrates, discovering how surfaces react and change depending on the materials used.

We also explored printing onto fabric using both a standard printer and sublimation printing techniques with the heat press, opening up exciting possibilities for incorporating photographs, imagery and personal memories into textile work.

A wonderfully thoughtful and creative day full of experimentation, colour and inspiration ✨

What a beautiful way to hold onto a workshop experience. ✨
Ruth attended the Amanda Clayton workshops and created this thoughtful concertina book to keep together her samples, stitch experiments, templates, notes and inspiration from the three days. A lovely reminder that workshops are not just about the finished piece, but about building your own personal reference library of techniques, ideas and discoveries to return to again and again.
I absolutely love this idea. 🤍

Next weekend Ruth will be at the studio for Bloom & Stitch — two relaxed days creating a beautiful Flowers in a Vase textile artwork using free-machine embroidery, painted fabrics, layering and stitch.
This is time just for you… to slow down, enjoy the process, and spend a weekend making in good company.
