You know that our festival is just one day…the Saturday…well, last year we thought it was a waste to be all set up on the Friday evening on the Green… bar all ready to serve beer… why not have a little pre festival party we thought!? So we opened the bar, invited some local musicians to play, invited people to come along and test the beer… and we had a party! It was so good, we thought we would do the same this year! So come on down on Friday evening, it’s FREE, we just want to warm up a bit before the main event on Saturday!!!

Well, the festival is only 3 weeks away now, the sun is shining and everything is warming up nicely! You know, of course, about the ticketed indoor concerts, but what else is happening? Lots and lots! Let me introduce to the Family Area on the Upper Green….there will be music, dancing, a puppet show, arts and crafts, a children’s ukulele workshop, clay making, weavers weaving their magic and more.

Most exciting, and new this year, will be drama workshops and performances by The Living Theatre. The coming is based just up the road in Whitwell, and they are committed to promoting community engagement in lovely outdoor spaces…they were made for Kimpton! They will be running two workshops followed by two performances…firstly at 11.30 am, then again at 2.30pm. They will need lots of keen young participants to take part! So bring you picnic blankets and your picnics and settle down in the Family area for the day..your children will be entertained all day long!

All of our outdoor activities are completely free, but there will be opportunities for you to donate towards our costs if you would like to do so, and every contribution goes towards us breaking even at the end of the weekend!

Something popped up on my FB page this week which gave me that Friday feeling…the fabulous trio, Culverake, posted a snippet of their sound check at a recent concert…and it gave me shivers. It’s got all the Feels…gorgeous unaccompanied three part harmonies, a traditional folk song stripped down to the bare bones…..how happy am I that Culverake are booked to open our headline evening concert at Kimpton, so I will get to hear their whole set. Wow, it’s hot, hot, hot! Festival season is hotting up and we are 6 weeks away from Kimpton Folk Festival! What have we got for you? Four amazing indoor ticketed concerts featuring top folk acts: Edwina Hayes, Sherburn Bartley Sanders, Culverake, Honey and the Bear, Granny’s Attic, Michell, Pfeiffer and Kulesh, Bolt and Geoghegan, Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, and finally our headline act, Merry Hell.

You can buy your ticket in one of three ways: an all day ticket giving you access to all four concerts spread throughout the day, from 11.30 am to 11pm! That is the best value! Or an afternoon ticket allows you into the first three concerts. Finally an evening ticket gets you in to just the evening concert. It’s up to you!!!

In addition… yes, there’s more! A whole day of free programming on the Village Green outdoor stage, with music, morris dancing, local choirs and…. Drum roll…Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble!!!! Don’t forget the early evening Ceilidh! And our latest booking for the Green… I was at a folk festival in Ibiza recently and saw a fabulous local band who got the whole crowd up on their feet. There is a clue in their name…The Thumping Tommys!!!

If all that is not enough, there is the Family Area on the Upper Green, with music, dancing, puppet shows, theatre workshops… actually so much on offer there I am going to save it for another post!

One extra act announced for the 2026 Kimpton Folk Festival!

Fantastic news for anyone planning to come to this year's Kimpton Folk Festival on Saturday, July 4. We can now announce that Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble will be joining our already amazing line-up.

The 50-strong band of hugely talented young musicians are led by Joe Broughton and percussionist Tom Chapman, who you probably know from the Urban Folk Quartet.

The Folk Ensemble will be playing on the Kimpton village green stage in mid-afternoon in a gap between concerts in the Church and Memorial Hall, so no-one attending the festival will miss a thing.
