Did you know that 98% of lemur species are threatened with extinction & 31% are critically Endangered.
They are the most Endangered group of mammals.
I have visited Madagascar & seen first hand the devastation of slash & burn.

People are really struggling there too. If you plan a visit, please make sure you support local small communities who are protecting a patch of forest & the lemurs. It will make a difference.
As these were called Common lemurs & we saw several, i think I overlooked the fact they are still vulnerable.
But they only live in protected areas.
The reality is that the lemurs need their habitat protecting. Some lemur species only feed on a particular tree which may only be in one place.
This piece will be on display Old Hall Southwold
so I will be bringing a little bit of memories of Madagascar with me!.

Critically Endangered & only found mostly on predator free islands in New Zealand.
Possibly only 235 left.
Only large flightless parrot, standing approx 60 cm tall.
They can live up to 90 years old. Males can weigh up to 4kg.
This is one animal that I know I will never see yet I fell in love with them after watching a documentary.
They are stunning & funny. Being flightless has left them vulnerable to many introduced pests such as cats & rats.
A dedicated team work tirelessly to monitor & protect these amazing birds.
I love telling anyone who will listen about them!
Unfortunately I could only find 2 free images to use as a reference so I did struggle with getting this right.
This is another piece i will be exhibiting on Sunday for the Art in the Barn event.
I have a feeling he could be the only New Zealand bird on show!

These endangered species have less than 10, 000 left which sounds alot but they are seriously declining.
With 50% of their habitat being in the Eastern Himalayas, i don't think I will see these in the wild.
Like many people, i had to rely on a visit to a zoo. Controversial although I believe, if they are cared for, i think they engage people who will never see these animals in the wild.
Places like that are working hard to educate people while really caring about their animals.
This is another piece that will be on sale at their Art in Barn event this Sunday, 14th June.

A5 acrylic original of a Sloth.
There seems to be so much misinformation about Sloths & unfortunately alot of incidents of wild ones being taken for human entertainment.
As I use my art to engage with people about the plight of endangered species, i decided to paint another one.
My son is always encouraging me to try painting on canvases & to create a background.
I thought i will start small! Especially for this new event.
I am exhibiting my originals this Sunday Art in the Barn event.

Fundraising Robins ready for the weekend.
Despite the wet grey weather we are having, Robins have the ability to make us smile.
I was asked last weekend if I printed these.
I definitely don't!
They are sliced, sanded & hand painted by myself.
Each one is different including the shape of the wood slice!

This old storage box needed a Giraffe to give it some new life. As it is rather large, it's not available on Etsy though.
It's one of my upcycled boxes that will be available this weekend.
I'm going to be at a new venue for me, joining The Little Makers Market in Bury St Edmunds.
10.40 -3pm at the Unitarian meeting house.

Today's walk was full of the noise of young birds recently fledged especially the Great tit's.
Flitting from branch to branch demanding food.
I live near woodlands & this time of year, it really comes alive.
This little guy is painted on silver birch bark which i collected from fallen dead trees.

While plein air painting by the river at Melton today, my distraction was a pair of oyster catchers. They have such a distinct call.
Walking back to my car, I came across a pair with tiny chick's in a front garden along way from the water.
What a treat to watch.
This is one i painted on a local oyster shell some time ago!
Nature is always my inspiration.
