IT’S A WRAP! – TOUCH OF GLASS
And just like that, another Touch of Glass course has come to an end.
It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know these lovely ladies and helping guide them through their own creative stained-glass journeys over the past six weeks.
This time I decided to try something a little different. Rather than everyone simply working from set templates, I encouraged the group to develop their own ideas and designs for their final pieces.
I’ll admit, somewhere along the way I started questioning myself! 😂 Will their designs work in glass? Will they be happy with them? Should I have just stuck to the templates?!
But as the weeks went on, I watched their confidence grow. They learned that stained glass doesn't always go exactly to plan — and that's okay. They learned to troubleshoot, improvise, adapt and find another way when something didn't quite work.
And today I got my answer.
Every finished piece was completely individual and a beautiful creation from someone's imagination — from Star Trek, to Salvador the seagull catching his fish, beautiful seascapes and boats, and Alison's gorgeous colourful butterfly.
We missed you today, Alison, but your butterfly certainly still got its moment to shine! 🦋
We also worked together on a very special collaborative piece for CLASP. I designed and created the two clasped hands — each of the ladies created their own beautiful blue forget-me-not flower to surround them 🌸
It's still very much a work in progress, as you can see in the photo, and I can't wait to bring all of the individual pieces together into the finished design. I love that everyone who took part in the course will have contributed a little piece of themselves to something that will remain at CLASP — a lovely reminder of connection, inclusion, creativity and the time we've shared together.
I always feel a little sad when a course finishes. One of my favourite parts of what I do isn't only teaching stained glass — it's the connections that form while we're creating. You spend weeks together, have the laughs, get to know one another, watch people's confidence develop… and suddenly it's the last session.
To all of the ladies, I hope you are proud of what you've achieved. I hope you take your new skills and knowledge with you, keep creating, keep experimenting and, most importantly, trust yourselves when an idea doesn't quite go according to plan.
