Q: What do you make someone who believes all animals dislike being dressed up except for Raccoons? Raccoons love to wear t-shirts, especially with ‘I ❤️ my daddy’ on them, apparently! A: Their very own ‘trash badger’ 😂. Happy birthday Mr H, you’re allowed to watch grape eating Raccoon clips all day if you wish 😂 https://youtu.be/jyCmnvBbm8Q

Hello my lovelies, is it hot enough for you? 🌞 Inspired by some Fly Agaric mushrooms I came across recently, I’ve been beavering away designing and creating a 3D needle-felted fairy house. There’s still lots to do and lights to be installed inside so the fairies can see what they’re doing at night obviously but here’s a sneak peak. Each of the sparkly gills have been twisted individually before felting in place. There’s just short of 150 in total so time consuming but very therapeutic though sometimes I do wonder why I start seeing double or triple, it’s nowt to do with the gin! 🍄👀😂🧚‍♀️

Trying to capture the cuteness of this little sweetie is no mean feat I can tell you 😂 Work is very much in progress on this one. I’ve still got quite a way to go but he’s keeping me out of mischief on this fine sunny afternoon! I shall let him sleep when it cools this evening to pursue my other passion. You can find out what that is on my other page: The Happy Snapperz Snaps😉. Have a wonderful weekend everyone ❤️

I am delighted to have received this photo of sweet Ruby, now framed and in pride of place in the home she loved. I know nothing can replace the loss of our beloved pets, they are as much a part of the family as any human (even more so in many cases, I reckon 😉) so it’s been my absolute privilege to capture and immortalise this beautiful soul and to see her in situ. Thank you Ruby’s mum & dad ❤️x

Hello, my lovelies, I hope you’re all fine and dandy. It’s been a challenge but phewee, I think I’ll call this fella finished! This is my first attempt at a shiny coat, t’was a bit daunting but if you don’t give it a go, you’ll never know, as my motto goes! 😉 Thank you to every one who has contacted me about doing dog portrait commissions, I’ve a few more breeds to complete first as part of the course I’m taking, so if you’d like adding to the list, drop me a line and I’ll send you the details when I’m up and running. Have a lovely weekend everyone 🤗

Some of you may remember The Spirit of Bear and his story that I posted back in February this year, well since then there has been a little addition to the family, today in fact when tiny bear arrived at his forever home. When ‘Goldilocks’ as I shall fondly nickname their beautiful owner asked if I could replicate him this time as a key ring, I gave it a go. Here’s the original story of Bear and new photos of ‘Goldilocks’ and her three bears all together in the comments. 😉🥰

Introducing the beautiful Ruby who sadly transitioned over the rainbow bridge last month. It’s been a privilege to attempt to capture her essence, I hope I’ve done her justice. Run free sweet girl, I hope your portrait will fill a little of the huge hole I know you have left behind. ❤️ 2D portrait needle felted from 100% wool fibre on a pre-felted background. EDIT: I’ve just rounded the muzzle slightly as side by side with the photo I saw it was too angular and I’ve shortened the beginning of her left leg. I knew the years of spot the difference puzzles would come in useful one day 😂👍

Hello lovely people, are you all well? It seems I’ve been quiet for ages but after resting my RSI injured wrist due to some over enthusiastic gardening, I’ve dived into a training course with a lovely lady called Sophie Wheatley to learn 2D dog portrait felting and here is my first completed attempt! The picture is created using 100% felt fibres on a 100% wool felt sheet. I’ve added the photo so you can see what I was working from. Any feedback/critique welcome😊

Petrichor - I love that word and it’s meaning.
/ˈpɛtrʌɪkɔː/

noun
noun: petrichor
1. a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.

Description : (Wikipedia)
‘Petrichor is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. The word is constructed from Greek petra, "rock", or petros, "stone", and īchōr, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.’

Having the time to really tune back into nature right now, my connection and insights have increased tenfold. Breathing the petrichor in deeply, one of my favourite scents, I had another little visitor join me. Meet Pēteris, cousin twice removed to Bryvin, who sidled up to me as I stood beneath the Silver Birch tree at the bottom of my garden under the moonlit sky. I have mixed feelings about that tree, I love her with a passion yet I’m sad that she was planted smack bang in the middle of human housing as it means she has to be regularly pruned instead of being allowed to spread her magnificence unhindered. I am grateful for the wisdom she has to share and the secrets about her that Pēteris revealed.

The Silver Birch represents new beginnings and cleansing. Their twigs in days gone by were used to ‘birch’ the naughty to drive out bad spirits. Our ancestors ‘birched’ their land boundaries to purge any untoward energies that may have become stuck so what more perfect twigs (fallen ones of course) to make a broom to cleanse your home?

When Pēteris began to explain that an infusion made from young birch leaves (permission from the tree must be sought before harvesting, we must never, ever just take) can be used as a natural sedative, to break up kidney and gallstones to treat cystitis and as a mouth wash to treat sore mouths, then the penny dropped. Mr Friedlfelt is a kidney stone sufferer, so maybe that’s why we unconsciously chose the house we did? There’s lots more to our ‘Lady of the woods’ then I’ve mentioned here of course but maybe that’s for a longer story and as I must point out: ‘alternate healing methods are not a substitute for medical treatment. You must always seek the advice from a medical professional if you are unwell’

I meet some real characters on my travels, take Bryvin here who came and sat nonchalantly along side me as I was sheltering from the midday sun in the shade of a great old oak this afternoon.

“Ow do?” he greeted me, to my surprise. I don’t know why I didn’t expect him to speak in Yorkshire tongue, after all, here we were in God’s own county. Anyway after I’d got over my surprise I greeted him back: “Fair t’middling” with a nod of my head, which roughly translates as ‘rather well, thank you’

“Me names, Bryvin” he said. “Ah know yours, yewer that Friedl lass, ah’v seen yer stuff on that there intreenet. Nah then, yer see this great walloping Oak, yer leant up against?”

I glanced over my shoulder and nodded in agreement. “T’wer planted ‘ere by Thor himsen, tha knows. Yor folk reckon, these trees can only live to a 1,000 year ald, but they’d be wrong! Si thi, this fella’s been ‘ere nigh on 10,000 year, ah remember it sprouting when ah wor nowt burra nippa. It’s seen many a King crowned under it has this ‘un, an t’ Druids, it’s a favourite place for them un all!”

Before I had chance to interact Bryvin continued: “Ah bet yer dint know that yer ancestors used to roast acorns int embers of the fires and then grind ‘em between two gret whopping stones to mek flour?” I shook my head, sensing I wasn’t going to get the chance to reply and sure enough before I could open my mouth anyway he said:

“Coffee! Me, ah prefer good ol Yorkshire tea but the were a time when they’d roast t’peeled acorn kernels until thi were as golden as settin sun, then thi’d grind ‘em un roast again t’mek coffee”

“Oh un one last thing, when you lot ar troubled wi stress like, sit thi’sen dahn under t’oak, it’ll gi yer strength un courage un it’ll also help sort out that cotton wool ‘ead o yours, bring yer a bit o that there calm n inner peace ye crave. Aye, it’s reyt good for sortin’ problems aht.

And with that, Bryvin was gone! Well, I’ll go t’foot of ar stairs! 😂 (An old northern expression of surprise or amazement, meaning presumably, that the short walk to the place mentioned would allow the speaker to recover their composure)

At last, I can finally reveal my latest creation! Introducing Blue, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier with the sweetest nature ever! Let’s see what his reaction is to meeting his portrait for the first time yesterday... 😂

His eyes are hand-painted. It only took me eight pairs to be satisfied 😂
His name plate I made from resin, a piece of blotting type paper torn off an incense box and a silver pen I found whilst scrabbling in a drawer!

Loved this challenge, I may just be a little in love with Blue himself 🥰

I’ve been doing a little experimenting recently, I’ve preserved a dandelion clock as a paperweight and the two hearts contain some of our beloved cats ashes. What do think of the ashes idea? They could be made to either go inside a commissioned piece as a heart like these, maybe as a tag to go on a collar (lots of different colours available) for a needle-felted portrait or even in a necklace for the owner when I get some tasteful supplies. Yay or nay?

I think this little fella might be one for mischief. Hmmm 🤔😂

Many, many, many, many moons ago, I had my own dog grooming salon. It’s been a long number of years since I brandished a pair of hair scissors and fluffed up a poodle and such like. Now Sid has gone to his forever home, I thought I’d have a go at making a sweet little Bichon and see if I had retained any of my styling skills. I leave you to be the judge of that 😉

"Sid" by Friedlfelt Needle Felt Crafts

“SOPPY VIDEO ALERT!” Over the last two weeks my latest project has been keeping me rather preoccupied. I have grown rather attached to “Sid” who stands 10” tall approx. 38+ hours later (I eventually stopped counting😂) I present to you “Sid” - in loving memory. Karen, you may have to wrestle me for him 😉❤️ xx WATCH Sid’s video here: https://youtu.be/d2L1HQGXxSc

I’m on with what I call the ‘tightening up’ phase on my latest project. I suppose I could be described as a ‘firm’ felter. I like my creations to have a more solid feel than squishy, it’s just my personal preference and is of course why I put so many hours into one piece. There’s no right or wrong way, basically the more you stab the wool, the more the fibres tangle and the more solid an object becomes. Can you see the difference between the left and right leg? When held by his left leg, our right as you look at the photo, he stands proud. When held by his right he looks like he’s had one too many whiskies 😂 Maybe he has? 😉

COMPETITION TIME!!! Exciting news! I am currently working on a Friedlfelt website along with the invaluable assistance of web designer Ceri Wood https://www.facebook.com/CeriWoodDesigns/ and ace photographer Sarah Brabbin https://www.sarahbrabbin.co.uk/ Thank you ladies 😄🙏

QUESTION: Can you lovely lot help me out with some category suggestions please i.e what’s your favourite animals/pets/mythological creatures or fairytale beings? What would you like to see?

HOW TO ENTER IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS: 1. COMMENT below with what your favourite creature is (real or mythological or fairytale) You can comment separately as many times as you wish if you like more than one thing (don’t we all!) 2. Please SHARE this post and 3. ASK your friends to LIKE my page https://www.facebook.com/friedlfeltneedlefelt/ (I’m on Instagram too btw 😉 #friedl_felt_needle_felt_crafts ) and ONCE I reach a magical 200 likes or more (I’m not greedy lol) I will choose a comment at random and hand craft a (hopefully beautiful 😉) brooch of the winners chosen animal/creature and write a personalised story to go with it. The brooch will be totally unique and unable to be exactly replicated. Oh and if you’d like to give the lovely Ceri & Sarah a ‘like or follow’ I’m sure they’d be delighted too. THANK YOU ❤️🙏❤️ #carbonartuk #sarahbrabbin #competition
