Throwback from a recent charity gig at The Apple Tree Crawley where I sang 'Always Remember Us This Way' (Lady Gaga) for the first time in public🎤✨

Lady Gaga is definitely not an easy artist to attempt to cover, but I love challenging myself with different styles and stepping out of my comfort zone in ways I never used to.

Returning to singing lessons has really opened up new possibilities for me vocally, and I’m always striving to keep improving and become more versatile — because it’s so much fun 🎶

It definitely helps having such a supportive singing partner beside me too Taylor😎

Over the last few months I’ve been working with a singer who wanted support with performance confidence, song choices and developing his strengths as a performer.

I’ve really enjoyed helping him work towards his goals and seeing his confidence grow.

The Sunday Tea Parties are jazz for the slow half of the weekend. Held at Kemaellis, they pair loose-limbed repertoire with cake, tea and the general business of Sunday afternoons ending. The format leans to voice and piano, or voice and small trio - American Songbook, bossa nova, ballads, the gentler end of jazz and blues. Audiences range from day-trippers to dedicated listeners; the room is warm, the arrangements are unhurried, and the music respects the time of day. It’s the least precious of the year-round formats: come for the tea, stay for the singer, walk out into the early evening.

Karen is part of the MJFBF Family! She is a Horsham-based solo vocalist working the West Sussex and Surrey circuit. Italia Conti trained from age eleven to sixteen, she’s built a career on range rather than specialism - 1940s through 1980s repertoire, jazz, blues, pop, Motown, soul - and calibrates her set to the room she’s in.

A lovely gig yesterday at The Queens Head Public House, Barns Green where someone asked me what my favourite song is to sing…and I honestly find it hard to choose just one 🎶

However, moments like this reminded me how much I love the simple, stripped-back songs — just voice and piano. That’s really how I started singing, and there’s something special about the connection and storytelling in songs like this.

I still love mixing things up and keeping variety in my sets, but sometimes less really is more ✨
