Judith Brown Jewellery makes elegant contemporary jewellery with a nostalgic influence. She uses silver wire and stitching, wrapping and twisting techniques which developed following her degree in embroidery.

This year Artfest Holmfirth 2020 she would have brought her best selling Geometric collection with her including some new designs she has been developing influenced by Art Deco design and pattern. This collection is made in silver or oxidised silver wire and features tiny glass beads for subtle colour and texture.

We will miss seeing Judith this year but she’ll be back with us in 2021.

Give her website a look https://www.judithbrownjewellery.co.uk/ where you can buy direct from her.

Richard & Janet are the team behind landscape photographers with a love of wild, remote places and a passion for simple atmospheric images.

For them the stark simplicity of a lone tree in a field of snow is a work of art itself and its these conditions that give their images the atmosphere they strive for.

Go check out their work here or via their website

You will also be able to meet them in person again at next years November 2021

This evenings Artfest Holmfirth 2020 share is the work of Marianthi Lainas - Photographer

Having spent most of her life living a stone's throw from the beach, she is inspired by the transient beauty of the littoral landscape.

“At the dynamic edges of the land, the shore is in a constant state of flux. Temporary lines and textures are formed by wave and wind, the landscape reshaped twice daily. I combine photographic techniques with mixed media processes to visually interpret these cycles of ebb and flow. Most recently working out at the strandline, exposing light-sensitive papers to the dynamic elements of wind, wave and sand, which leave their imprint, visually marking a moment in time. Back in the studio, pieces are hand-embellished with wax, fibres or paint.”

Marianthi had a successful last year and we are looking forward to her joining us again in 2021 for at the Holmfirth Civic Hall

On this beautiful early Autumn day we would like to share the work of our next exhibitor for 2021, Frances Noon Mixed Media Sculpture & Jewellery who creates small mixed-media sculptures and jewellery.

Her sculptures feature animals and birds, hand cut & stamped from brass & copper combined with wooden elements. Each piece is made by hand so she can change the details & her creatures tend to take on individual characters.

The jewellery is bird and flower themed and made from silver, bronze and copper.

Everything is produced in her home workshop based in Slaithwaite.

She will be joining us again for Artfest Holmfirth in November 2021 but you can buy direct from Frances now via her website

Today’s artist spotlight for Artfest Holmfirth is Foewatofkent aka Greg Kent.

https://forestofkent.co.uk/

Here he describes his passion for working with wood:

“For me wood turning is like treasure hunting, as I turn the wood I uncover the treasure hidden inside. The shape and colours I use should be what a picture frame is to a picture. They should show the wood off to its best effect. I like to use either reclaimed wood or wood that was destined for the fire. My aim, working with nature, is to create beautiful and unique pieces. Based in Lancashire, I collect most of my wood from community wood recycling projects and from local tree surgeons. I dry and prepare the wood for turning and wait until the wood tells me what type of object and shape it should be. I like to work with the grain, the figure, the bark, the burrs and even any rot in order to bring out the beauty in the wood”

Second of our sixty artists for Artfest Holmfirth to showcase is the incredibly talented ceramicist & sculptor Vicky Yates Ceramics.

Vicky hand builds wildlife sculptures from clay which are then finished with oxides, underglazes and sometimes lustre and gold leaf. Each piece is individually made and unique. Her inspiration comes from animals around her in the Cumbrian countryside and having worked in Tanzania some of her pieces have an African theme.

You can contact Vicky about buying her work online via her website:

In sixty days time from today we should have been opening the doors for Artfest Holmfirth 2020 welcoming our visitors at the Holmfirth Civic Hall and supporting all 60 of our participating artists.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions still being in place we cannot do a live show but want to share each and every maker accepted during selection earlier this year.

What better way to start than with Andy Walker Digital Artist, People’s Choice award winner of last year.

Based in the Cotswolds, Andy's digital artwork comprises complex and intricate mosaics of hand-drawn coloured triangles. He enhances the vibrancy and intensity of his original photographic studies, mostly landscapes and seascapes.

In each artwork, that can take up to 200 hours to complete, the number of triangles (shown by the title) totals many thousands. Representational from a distance each artwork, upon closer inspection, appears totally abstract.

In response to the latest government guidance on Coronavirus (Covid-19) Holmfirth Civic Hall like many other venues has had to close its doors for the foreseeable future and postpone all upcoming events.

As a registered charity they rely solely on your support and generosity to keep the Hall open for the benefit of the community of Holmfirth and as a cracking venue for events such as Artfest Holmfirth

Whilst they remain closed, and only if your personal situation allows, there are ways you can still offer your support....

Please consider buying tickets for – an event that, you guessed it, will never happen! Buy as many tickets as you like and your donation will be helping them to survive this difficult period.

We have been respectfully quiet here at Artfest Holmfirth for very understandable reasons.

We would sincerely like to wish all our followers, supporters, artists and event hosts the very best of wishes in these difficult times.

With wishes in mind, we are still planning and hoping to bring Artfest back to Holmfirth later this year on the 14th & 15th of November.

So far, there have been some stunning applications for the event from artists all over the UK. It truly promises to be an even better event than last year!

If you’re an artist who has been thinking about applying then please do so. There are a couple of days left until applications close on the 30th of April.

Selection will take place during May as previously planned but stand fees to artists will be waived until much later in the year when we are fully certain we can hold the event successfully for all involved.

Currently laid very low with a humdinger of a cold... hoping normal service will resume soon but until then just sharing a couple of images from my last two recent events & Artfest Holmfirth
where my work was alongside that of .art which worked rather well we felt.

Lots of my framed and mounted work is now available again from in Marsden too.

A great effort by all over the weekend. We are looking forward to hosting Artfest Holmfirth again in 2020.
Wow! What a lovely surprise this was 😃

This weekend at the Holmfirth Artfest I was awarded the prize of People's Choice - a massive thank you to all the visitors that voted for me! This was sponsored by the Enjoy Art Gallery who I look forward to exhibiting with next year 😁

A big thank you to all those who came into our pop up cafe or bought a raffle ticket while attending Artfest Holmfirth today.
All funds raised will go towards the upkeep of the hall.
See you again at 10am tomorrow!

Flippin’ heck it has been a bit of a busy few weeks. I’ve been spreading myself around a bit - (hopefully not too thinly!)
😀
I have just finished setting up for Artfest Holmfirth- a brand new event in Holmfirth and I’m really excited to be part of it. If you are free this weekend it would be lovely to see you, (any of my local buddies?? - and of course anyone from further afield). The work on show looks fantastic and I’m sure you could get most of your Christmas shopping done in one hit!

We are at the Civic Hall tomorrow, Saturday 16th November 10am-5pm, and Sunday 17th, 10am-4pm.

It would be lovely to see you. 🌲🎁
Not great weather for photography but here’s the finished bag I showed you a sneak peek of last week together with a matching neck warmer, all ready for Artfest Holmfirth in just 10 days time, I’m hoping that the beautiful Yorkshire tweed will appeal to the buyers at the event.🤞
My next and last fair of the year will be Artfest Holmfirth 16/17th Nov. I will be making new assemblage works and botanicals, bringing the remaining pieces of my new porcelain tableware collection, including new deep bowls ( food safe ) I will not be able to make more porcelain pieces this year, too much else to complete.

Not long until we host Artfest Holmfirth at the hall on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th November. Only £2.50 entry which covers entry all weekend. Our pop up cafe will be open throughout the event.
