Lovely afternoon yesterday watching a printing demonstration with Will D**e. Was fascinating to see two printing techniques . One cutting away Mountboard the other drypoint etching. @
Next meeting at the Band Room Sat 18 th July .
Sharon Hurst demonstrating jackmans granulating paints in watercolour. She is a very entertaining and informative lady so I would imagine we will learn a lot about how to use these paints. Meeting starts 2.30 at the band room .members free non members 5 .
Also looking forward to seeing some of you at the Lions Cranleigh Carnival next Saturday, where we will be having a stall.

Tomorrow the 16th June we have our paint craft morning at the Band room. 915 until 12 .30 cost 5 pounds bring along whatever you are working on crochet, knitting ,cross stitch or join in with painting /drawing flowers which will be brought for you to paint in whatever medium you choose. Tea and coffee and chat all free!
Saturday 20 th we have a dry point etching demonstration by Will D**e printmaker. Not sure if he is etching or Lino printmaking sure to be interesting anyway.
Members free, non members cost five pounds. The meeting is held at the band room the demonstration starts at 2.30 doors open 2. Tea coffee at 3.30 finish 4.30.

A few of our upcoming events this month.

Tuesday June 16th our Painting and Crafting session 9.00am till noon. £5.00 charge Please do come and bring whatever you would like to do. Just in case you need inspiration, Jeanette is bringing some flowers for us to paint , draw, colour etc.

Saturday June 20th Will D**e is coming to demonstrate printmaking - focusing on Dry Point.
" Will D**e studied illustration and printmaking at Harrow College of Art, University of Westminster. Stories and illustration have influenced and informed his artistic outlook, which also encouraged his earlier career in bookselling. Will specialises in woodcut and linocut prints, exhibiting and teaching regular workshops and classes. He sells limited edition prints and works to commission. Much of his work is inspired by rural life and history, which has led to an involvement with the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum in West Sussex.
Will is also the organiser of the Printmakers' Exhibition, held annually in Chichester. It is a popular show showcasing prints handmade in traditional methods. Exhibitors include printmakers from Will's classes, invited artist's, professionals, and attendees of West Dean College, from amateur, to foundation, and degree level." ( courtesy of Art Profile)

On Saturday 27th June Cranleigh Lions Carnival We have a stall, promoting our Society in the hope of gaining new members to come and join our Society Please do support Sandra and Beryl's team. It should be a fun day with lots of stalls and activities to see and watch.

Wow ! What a day! Thank you Sharon Hurst for a wonderful entertaining and enjoyable watercolour workshop. It truly has been a lovely day and I think we have all learned a lot of new techniques and ideas to take forward.
Next meeting Will D**e Drypoint etching in June and we look forward to seeing Sharon again to demonstrate granulation paints in July.

Yesterday was our create morning. We set up a still life configuration.
This is the still life and this is what we did.
Looking forward to Saturdays workshop on watercolours.
The next meeting is Saturday June 20th where Will D**e will be demonstrating dry point etching a print making technique.
Starts 2.30 at the band room.

A few photos from yesterdays demonstration of portraits in machine embroidery. Very enjoyable and engaging lady.
Next month sat June 20 th at the band room starting at 2.30 we have a demonstration by Will D**e print maker focussing on dry point etching! Sounds interesting .
This Tuesday 9.15 at the band room in the morning there is a craft and paint morning bring what you like to do but there will be a still life set up for you to try if you wish it. Any medium.

Saturday May 16th at 2.30pm The Band Room
Jude Moon Castle is coming to demonstrate Free Machine Embroidery. Drawing with a Sewing machine do come and enjoy something different.
"Jude is an artistic embroiderer with a passion for portraiture and textile art.
She initially studied Creative Embroidery in the 1970s whilst training to be a primary/middle school teacher. During her time at college, she shunned the fashion for creating abstract works inspired by nature and instead pressed her sceptical tutors to let her create portraits, happily with great success. Then on graduating, that was it, as she stepped away from her art to concentrate on her family, sporting pursuits and career.
Eventually in 2015 and now semi-retired, Jude rekindled her interest in creative embroidery, initially stitching animals – including pets of friends and family. However, she was soon back creating portraits and steadily developing her own signature, illustrative style which slowly gained interest from others, along with recognition.
Most of her work today is created by covering the whole surface with just freehand machine embroidery. The result gives the impression that the artwork has been painted or created using pastels, so she particularly enjoys seeing people’s reactions when they are told that her artworks are in fact, entirely stitched.
In 2023 at her first attempt, one of Jude’s embroidered portraits, ‘Al’s Best Mate, Mike’ was accepted for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition.

The following year in 2024, she was joint winner of the Embroiderers Guild Members’ Challenge with her submission of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. She has also undertaken commissions and had articles about her in various local publications.
Whilst much of her work is machine embroidery, she does enjoy hand stitching, attempting to create the same illusion with minute, detailed stitches."( courtesy of Art Profile )

On Tuesday 19th May 9.00am till Noon our monthly Paint and Craft session takes place, in The Band Room. £5.00 Charge .For those who want to, we are setting up a simple Still Life for you to draw, paint etc. Otherwise please do come and bring what ever you would like to do instead.

Fantastic demonstration by Jake Winkle this afternoon using watercolours in a very colourful and dynamic style. He gave lots of tips and tricks great afternoon! Great explainer of his process .
Next meeting May 16 th. Free machine embroidery demonstration ! Very different and be interesting to watch. Photos below from this afternoons demo.
