Darren Williams is a versatile Producer-Director known for combining emotional storytelling with bold visual style. He began his career at the BBC Natural History Unit, shooting acclaimed series such as Planet Earth II, Deadly Dinosaurs, Secrets of Bones and Wild Alaska Live

Darren joined Silverback Films to work on the Emmy-winning Our Planet, directing and filming sequences around the world. He then joined the A Perfect Planet team where he built a reputation for delivering in the toughest environments.

Inspired by the creative potential of VFX, he joined The Dinosaurs team in 2022, taking the lead on Episode Four — the emotional final chapter of the fall of the dinosaurs.

Working with Industrial Light & Magic and show-runner Dan Tapster to deliver an emotional and visually spectacular conclusion to the series.

There will be a screening of episode four of “The Dinosaurs”, followed by a Q&A where we invite questions from the audience as well.

Approximate run time of 2hrs.

We’re delighted that Oscar-nominated actor Sally Hawkins has donated her personal copy of Ibsen’s ‘The Lady from the Sea’ to the Powerhouse Play Library. 📚

“I love Ibsen” says sally. “I did The Lady From the Sea many moons ago in RADA and it has stayed with me.”

This powerful psychological drama follows Ellida Wangel, torn between duty and desire, land and sea - marking one of Ibsen’s most compelling studies of female psychology.

The play will be added to our specialist play library, which opens later in 2025.

We’re thrilled that that BAFTA-nominated actor and writer Maxine Peake has donated her powerful collection ‘The Four North Women’ to the Powerhouse Play Library. 📚

Maxine’s advice to our young actors was to “Be brave and have fun!”

Her extraordinary plays tell the true stories of remarkable women who changed history - from cycling champion Beryl Burton to ‘headscarf revolutionary’ Lillian Bilocca, from the brave Women Against Pit Closures to the groundbreaking Betty Boothroyd.

Powerhouse’s play collection will be available from our specialist theatre library, when it opens in Hereford in 2025 - part of our mission to make exceptional cultural resources accessible to everyone in our community. ⚡️

Powerhouse is absolutely delighted to announce that our digital theatre production ‘Mappa Mundi’ has been selected by Arts Council England as one of only thirteen projects in the UK to make the Digital Content long-list for the prestigious Digital Culture Awards 2025. 🙌

A co-production with Rural Media, Mappa Mundi is a pioneering fusion of live theatre, cinematic technique, and Ai technology.

Selected from hundreds of entries nationwide, this recognition celebrates our innovative approach to digital drama that pushes beyond conventional boundaries of theatre capture.

Working with Rural Media, we’ve explored new hybrid forms of digital theatre that preserves the magic of live performance while leveraging cinematic techniques to reach digital audiences.

Our approach has resonated deeply with live and digital audiences, who describe the experience as “mind-blowing”.

This recognition from Arts Council England validates our commitment to reimagining how digital technology can transform theatrical storytelling.

Powerhouse remain dedicated to pushing creative boundaries and technological innovation; to make theatre more accessible for all audiences in our community and across the UK.

Huge congratulations to Powerhouse co-founder Amy Howard on her new role, leading Ledbury Poetry! 🎉

NEW DIRECTOR and NEW JOINT CHAIRS

Ledbury Poetry is pleased to announce Amy Howard as the new Director (sabbatical cover). Amy says, “I’m thrilled to be taking on this role with Ledbury Poetry and I can’t wait to see what we achieve together. Poetry is communication. Sometimes soft and elegant, other times visceral and challenging; but always communication. Now more than ever, the world needs people to be hearing each other so I’m excited to be able to celebrate this incredible art form, while forging new connections and pathways to people who have yet to discover that they love poetry.”

Amy will be guided and supported by Ledbury Poetry’s Board of Trustees, as well as new co-Chairs, Curtis Fulcher and Michael Amherst.
