Kytes Theatre Group

Kytes Theatre Group An award winning theatre company based in Havering & Brentwood, Essex. http://www.kytes.net

Kytes was formed in 1980 by a small group of like minded individuals who shared a strong desire to put on shows of the highest quality. This aim has always been at the heart of everything Kytes do and, as a result, the group has been successful in attracting some of the best acting talent from within Havering and Brentwood to its ranks. This can be evidenced in the number of awards and nominations

the group has won for its productions over the years and the high levels of praise received from audiences at Brentwood Theatre, where we stage our productions. Kytes Theatre Group is continually growing both in membership and ideas for new shows, new writing and new and exciting ways of presenting challenging theatre. Sadly I have to announce the death of a friend to the group and an actor with other local groups. Martin Greiner died last week after a lengthy illness. He was always a supporter of local theatre and will be missed. Sadly far too young to be taken. RIP Martin.
His funeral will be Tuesday 27th July

It is with great sadness that I have to report our friend Robert Bastian passed away recently.
Robert played the part of Ray Say in our production of Little Voice. He was a powerful actor and a very talented singer. Our thoughts are with his family. R.I.P.

This evening's Brent Awards featured a lovely tribute to our members Glenda and Alan, who sadly are no longer with us. Beautifully done.

A great night at The Brents for Kytes. Tori Till took Best Actress for her role as Piaf and Romyann Brooks won Best Supporting Actress as her friend in the same play.

It is with much sadness that Kytes have to announce the passing of one of our members, the talented Alan Ablewhite.
Alan originally directed for us, bringing his production of 'Tis Pity She's A W***e to Brentwood Theatre. He returned later, giving us some marvellously comical characters in both Flint Street Nativity and What The Butler Saw.

As well as performing and directing with Kytes, Alan was a much respected stalwart of local theatre, most notably for the many wonderful productions he was involved in for The Brentwood Shakespeare Company.

He will be much missed for his outstanding contribution to local drama and his wealth of experience.

Our thoughts are with his wife Gill and his family.

Dedicated to the memory of Glenda Abbott

14/11/2016

Today we learned of the passing of one of our members, and former chairmen, Glenda Abbott. Glenda was a huge talent and driving force for amateur dramatics in the area. A prolific actress, rewarded multiple times for her talent, with awards from both Brentwood Theatre and other country wide festivals. When not acting, she would direct productions both for Kytes and other groups that always pushed boundaries. A Streetcar Named Desire and Closer, were two of her last directorial challenges for us.
Glenda represented us at Havering's Arts Council and became herself, the Chairman of Brentwood's Arts Council, encouraging and supporting others in the passion for theatre we all share.
