The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society
encourages all aspects of the appreciation and study of the
decorative and fine arts. With inspiring monthly lectures given by some of the country’s
top experts, together with days of special interest, educational
visits and cultural holidays, NADFAS is a great way to learn,
have fun and make new and lasting friendships. There are over 90,000 members in the UK, mainland Europe
and Australasia. It maintains a panel of expert speakers
whose talks and study days form the core aspect of each
societies activities. AND we are so happy and excited that we, the South Gloucestershire team, as part of NADFAS, have set up a new society 'South Gloucestershire Decorative and Fine Arts Society' (SGDFAS) Sorry for the long title! based in Bradley Stoke. We had a fab 'taster' evening when Francis Greenacre, former Curator of Fine Art at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and author of the official guidebook of Tyntesfield talked to us about Bristol 200 years ago with a theme around the Suspension Bridge and surrounding country (as it was then) and the mysterious 'Bristol diamond'-. His presentation was inspiring and the paintings of a Bristol before we knew it was fascinating. We even got to see and handle one of the mysterious 'Bristol Diamonds Wow!! It was an amazing evening - a fantastic talk, fantastic atmosphere, all age groups and Yummy Scrummy, a local Bradley Stoke caterer provided delicious homemade biscuits and coffee/tea and wine!! There's no limit it seems to what you might learn about at an adventurous new hub for art appreciation in South Gloucestershire. These are just some of the subjects potentially on the agenda with the launch of the South Gloucestershire Decorative and Fine Arts Society in Bradley Stoke this autumn. Its monthly meetings promise to surprise and enthral with a hugely diverse offering of talks by some of the country's top experts in their field. So if you thought fine art was all about stuffy discussions on the Old Masters, think again.
