🎥 **WALK SPOTLIGHT: Kalemouth to Jedburgh** 🥾💧

Looking for a pleasant, scenic stroll steeped in local history? This beautiful linear route passes through gorgeous Borders countryside with very little ascent—making it the perfect excuse for coffee and cake at the end! ☕🍰

# # # **📖 The Journey & Heritage**

We begin this walk at **Kalemouth**, crossing the River Teviot over a historic suspension bridge (now closed to vehicles) before following a quiet minor road past Ormiston House. From there, we step back in time along the old **Roxburgh-Jedburgh railway line**, which closed to passenger traffic after the devastating winter floods of 1948 swept away the Teviot bridge.

* **River Walks:** We trace the old track to Nisbet, cross the modern road bridge, and head down a lovely riverside pathway where you can still spot the remaining stumps of the destroyed 1948 bridge.
* **Wildlife & Cliffs:** After picking up the old railway line once more, we emerge at Mounthooly and cross over to meet the **Jed Water**. The trail carries us past Riverside Park (home of Jedforest RFC) and joins the **Borders Abbeys Way**.
* **The Home Stretch:** This final riverside stretch treats us to stunning views of the ancient cliffs carved out by the water over millennia. Keep your eyes peeled for herons by the cauld—and if you're incredibly lucky, you might just spot a kingfisher as we approach the town centre! 🐦✨

The last day of the Festival was a corker with sunshine, fabulous views and great company
Day 3 of Walking the Wall went west from Housesteads to Gilsland while “ Howay back to Halty “ went east from Greenhead passing each other east of Walltown
Drinks back at The Manor House in Haltwhistle rounded off a successful 10 days
Here’s to next year!! Hope to see you all again.

Day 2 of Hadrian’s Wall walk
Exhausted!!!! 17 miles and not very nice weather ( though we never really got wet)
Much more interesting than day 1
Start was supposed to be Portgate but the bus broke down a mile from there!!!
No worries- find the nearest footpath and off we go.
Finished at Housesteads car park- the bus parked in the furthest corner to make sure we had done enough!
Thank you Felix Andy and Chris for leading and Bea for the amazing lemon cake and jelly babies just before lunch

Walk 12: Gilsland Circular. Perfect weather for the 7.5 mile walk from Gilsland to The Popping Stones via Willowford and Birdoswald. Great company and a nice pint at the Samson Inn to rehydrate 👍 — in Gilsland.

A huge shout out of thanks to
P H Guided Walks ( Pete) , Mary Imlah, Gwen Marples, Rob Pegg, the Miller family from Airy Holme, and the wonderful paramedics who attended within 30 minutes of our 999 call
Walk 14 from Snods Edge was supposed to be a gentle five miler before our lovely afternoon tea from the Shotley WI ladies
However one lady became poorly at the lunch stop.
The training our volunteers received kicked in and hopefully the lady will be alright.
It was all made much easier with the invaluable help of those mentioned

I think I will try to visit this event- looks an interesting programme
