We painted lovely Hellebores at my Watercolour Workshop yesterday. Commonly known as the Christmas rose - just like the rose, it has the power to make us feel good as it continues to bloom valiantly through the cold winter months. These stark, dark days are often times when we feel deprived of colour and light, then these subtle flowers brave the cold to cheer us. This little plant is here to remind us that there is strength to be found in unlikely places. Just like the hellebore, we too can flower in the shade and in dark times. We are resilient survivors.

As well as teaching my own watercolour workshops, I've been taking a portrait course myself using different art media. I've always been fascinated with portraits and people, especially trying to capture something a bit more emotive than just a likeness. These are a few of my favourites from 2025 - a few have even gone to new homes! That's the magical thing about art, there's always something new and exciting along this creative journey.

SOLD from the Playhouse Exhibition Halifax Art Society - "Who's There?" - gone to it's new home for Christmas. I've found that when painting portraits, it seems you always fall a little bit in love with the subject. It was hard to part with this little chap - thank goodness to prints!

My last watercolour workshop of 2025 with my wonderful art tribe. There was a lot of magical swizzling of brushes, and everyone created a fabulous painting befitting for the season. Big thanks to everyone who dropped by to say hello and supported me when I exhibited yesterday at the Halifax Agricultural Show. Lots of paintings went to new homes and it was especially nice to actually meet their new owners. My biggest challenge was being situated right opposite the fudge stall! It was a fabulous day with the sun shining pretty much throughout, and lots of entertainment and things to see going on. I've loved the show ever since I was a child with vivid memories of my mother carrying armsful of fabulous flowers which they sold off cheap, or gave away, at the end of the day.

Thank you to the person who bought The Old Bus from this year's Sowerby Bridge Art Trail. Also to the many shops and businesses in SB that supported us local artists with window displays, and nor forgetting the organisers who worked so hard to make it a success. I think my old bus fits in very well with the local countryside - I can't imagine how I would manage to paint a scene with one of the new bright pink ones !?*!?🤔

"GOLDEN GRACE" - sold at the annual Holmfirth Art Exhibition and gone to her new owner. I’m deeply humbled and truly grateful when someone connects with my art enough to bring it into their life. I received some heartfelt comments from the lovely lady who saw something in Grace that made her want to give her a home. (Mixed Media & Gold Leaf on Canvas.)
