Lucy Rose Murphy is a versatile pianist who enjoys playing an eclectic mix of genres and styles. Having performed in various festivals and competitions in and outside of London, Lucy’s successes include being awarded First Prize in the Recital Class at the Ealing Music Festival in 2014 and in October 2015 being invited to open the Beethoven Sonata Festival at the Old Royal Naval College.During the

summer of 2012 at the age of 17, Lucy was selected to participate in the International Piano Course run by The Royal College of Music under the instruction of Gordon Fergus-Thompson and Ian Jones. In December 2016 Lucy was invited to have a lesson with renowned pianist Pascal Rogé. A natural performer, Lucy has performed extensively in major venues throughout Great Britain and not only enjoys solo playing but also working extensively as an accompanist and in ensembles incorporating many different genres and styles. Some of her notable performances include two recitals at the Schott Music Shop in London, a concert filmed and recorded by a Sony representative at St. Giles Cripplegate Church Barbican, and an improvised recital inspired by the meditative music of Steve Reich as part of the “Turner and the Sea Exhibition” at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Recently in 2016, Lucy has accompanied the postgraduate soprano singer Alice Usher at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel and performed with her cello and piano duo “Duo Bella Aura” and her flute, oboe and piano trio at St. As well as this Lucy accompanied the postgraduate soprano singer Chelsea Baldwin in recording her debut album “Chelsea Baldwin – The Wedding Compilation”. Lucy’s cello and piano duo “Duo Bella Aura” formed in 2013 and alongside this she often plays in other chamber groups with fellow Trinity Laban musicians. She is a regular accompanist in schools and for ABRSM exams as well collaborations with Laban dancers showcasing their work in and around London. Lucy’s latest project was with the Animate Orchestra whereby musicians and dancers collaborated to create a choreographed work using Imogen Heap’s innovative Mi.Mu gloves. Her vast piano repertoire spans from early Baroque music through to contemporary pieces. Some commissioned works include “Inflection” written by composer Erica MacLeod débuted at the John Halford competition, and “A Field of our Hearts” by composer Alex Ling who invited Lucy to record his piece in November 2015. This year’s Gold Medal Showcase winner Harry Palmer composed “water Lillies” for Lucy which received a highly commended at the John Halford Competition in 2016. Lucy is an up and coming music critic and is regularly asked to write reviews on music concerts for websites such as ceel.org and for fellow colleagues and posts them to her online blog https://lucyrosemurphypiano.wordpress.com/. Lucy Rose Murphy has been a private piano teacher to children and adults of all levels from complete beginners to diploma/degree level for the past 5 years and has had great success with her students. She is currently undergoing an IVT Teaching Core course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and has also had various opportunities delivering music workshops in schools around London as well as being a regular accompanist for ABRSM exams. Lucy has her grade 8 in piano, grade 8 in Music Theory and is DBS checked. Lucy works on the students’ sight reading abilities, on improving technique, on developing logical and imaginative interpretations based on knowledge of style, and on furthering understanding and appreciation of music as well as its cultural and historical background in order to prepare students for concerts, festivals, exams etc. Lucy has a very open-minded approach to teaching and also teaches students who want to learn for their own enjoyment rather than participating in grades.
